Tested a portable elevated "V" today

Dug up the LCR meter & replaced the battery so I could check the numbers on the slider coil & see how they compared to the design intent. Min - 0.7 microhenries Max - 66 microhenries Somewhere in the middle - 26 microhenries Also did a shorty that should move the 220" from being...

Tested a portable elevated "V" today

The coil may be overkill for most uses. The closely spaced wraps make adjustment a bit "twitchy". I may do a variation with about half the potential inductance. The additional space between wraps should make selection a bit easier. A smaller diameter would also make the steps smaller. Full...

Tested a portable elevated "V" today

Working on another component for the pushup. This was a test print/build to see what needed tweaking on the design, but should be usable. Printed in ASA. Coil is done with 16awg tinned copper. Sliding contact is a keystone 5231 battery contact. M10 inserts on both ends, a M10 grub screw...

    cheap 250 watt dummy load

OK, one more iteration. The heat sink fins made placement a bit tricky, but got things to fit. The sweep has the highest SWR around 80 Mhz. I took a reading there and it was 1.14. So, 1Mhz to 160Mhz <= 1.14

    cheap 250 watt dummy load

You guys are absolutely right about the ground line. I made a quick change: & the difference was quite noticable. The AA-170 only plots 100 points to the screen, but the general trend is there, pretty much <= 1.2 from 1mhz to 160mhz I think I have a partial roll of aluminum flashing in...

    cheap 250 watt dummy load

Just for grins, put together a dummy load from a couple of amazon items, an aluminum heatsink & 50 ohm resister (RFP 250N50) & parts laying around. Parts cost, delivered, was < $18 Construction mainly consisted of designing/printing the 3D printed bracket for the SO-239 & drilling and...

Tested a portable elevated "V" today

I didn't use the 220" whips that day, but did a quick look this morning. First was an overview of the 220" whips as a "V", fully extended. This is a broad scan Now a closer look at the 20m neighborhood So a little shortening should do good with 20m I also took a look at using one 220"...

Tested a portable elevated "V" today

I just put copies of the files on printables.com if anyone wants to print one. https://www.printables.com/model/1690682-pole-topper-elevated-vvertical-antenna-base

Tested a portable elevated "V" today

I got around to testing a printed "V" antenna base design today. The base was done with M10x1.5 threaded inserts, but I have adapters to permit use of whips with a 3/8-24 thread. This was an initial test print with modification. The current model is more refined. I mounted the base on a...

------------------- MEM Channels ------------------ In HF mode (and probably HAM mode) there is the potential for 99 MEM channels. It took me a bit to get a handle on how they worked, so the following may be useful to someone with similar confusion. The manual refers to accessing MEM channels...

    Anytone AT 5000

Wanted to clarify/correct portions of the instructions for frequency expansion/band control found in the .xslx file provided by anytone. Note that this information is not present in the user manual. To select a CB/HAM/HF mode (after jumper moved to 3-2), press and hold FUNC during power up...

    Anytone AT 5000

Just got mine in, ordered on Amazon & shipped by Anytone (from Canada). At time of order, that option promised quicker delivery than one shipped by Amazon. Arrived intact, no shipping damage, no customs duty. Cover with speaker does not have a "warranty void if broken" seal. Opened it using...

    Anytone AT 5000

For those that might be interested, I extracted some of the pages from the anytone spreadsheet that describes AT-5000 frequency expansion. I'm attaching .PDF files for each of the sheets. One is the expansion process, the others are the channels in the bands associated with CB, HAM, and HF...

    Anytone AT 5000

Should have one coming in a week or so. Form factor was a big piece of the decision, probably going to pair it with an RT95 for a portable/UTV set up.
