Recommend an Amplifier for an ICOM 718

I tried my Icom 718 with my Yaesu 2100B. Did not work well for me.

    Yaesu 101E Receive Problem

Transistor Hey Shockwave...thanks so much! That transistor was the culprit. I guess even with the antenna and radio both grounded things like this still happen. I will be sure to disconnect my antenna whenever possible during thunder storms.

    Yaesu 101E Receive Problem

Thanks for the replies guys. Bulb is good and last year I gave the radio the once over and replaced the old caps and cleaned the relay. I'll check the relay again and check the audio board.

    Yaesu 101E Receive Problem

My radio was working fine up until recently. My transmit is fine but the audio on my receive is very low and the meter does not move at all in the receive mode. We've had some lightning storms recently. Don't know if that could have damaged the radio? I hooked another radio up to the antenna and...

    Yaesu FL2100B with Icom 718

I picked the amp up on ebay. I was shocked when I opened it up to see that there was hardly any dust inside and that the contacts on the band selector were like new. The front face still has the plastic over it. It seems that this amp was not used much. The door knob caps are in great shape! I...

    Yaesu FL2100B with Icom 718

OK guys...The radio is NOT modified and only puts out 40 watts on AM and yes I would be crazy to try and get more out of it especially when I have a 101E. Why anyone would want one of these radios for CB is beyond me. Why would anyone pay the money for a 718 for CB use with all those frequencies...

    Yaesu FL2100B with Icom 718

OK...thanks to all those who have replied! I was use to tuning with the Yaesu 101E. The Icom is a different animal. Apparently the Icom does not have enough output to tune the amp in CW or AM mode. When I tuned in SSB mode while speaking in to the mic I got output, but only could tune to about...

    Yaesu FL2100B with Icom 718

The relay buffer is working because the relay in the amp engages and the DC A gauge moves, just no output? I guess the two are just not compatible?

    Yaesu FL2100B with Icom 718

When the amp is in the stand-by mode I have output. When turned on I have no output. The amp works fine when hooked up to my Yaesu 101E. Could it be that the Icom does not have enough output to drive the amp?

    Yaesu FL2100B with Icom 718

FL-2100b No Output My 2100b amp works fine with my 101 rig. I hooked the amp up to my Icom 718 using an external relay buffer and it keys the relay in the amp but there is no power output. I was told that I would not need the ALC voltage. Any ideas on what I need to do?

    D104 TUG8 & ICOM 718

Battery Solved the problem. Seems that the battery I was using was too low. When I put a fresh battery in the squeal stopped. Sideband will work without a battery but not AM.

    D104 TUG8 & ICOM 718

Gain Pot Sorry...on this mic the pot IS outboard and NOT part of the actual circuit board.

    D104 TUG8 & ICOM 718

TUG8 This particular one has the gain pot soldered to the board unlike my 2 other D104s that use an outboard pot.

    D104 TUG8 & ICOM 718

I wired up one of my D104 mics to my Icom-718 and I was surprised to see that it works WITHOUT a battery! How can that be? Also it performs well on SSB but on AM I can hear a squeal coming from inside the radio when keyed even if the mic element is removed from the mic base. I hooked a battery...
