Completely new to CB, lots of questions

The radio arrived today. I'll have to make a mounting bracket, but that shouldn't take too much work. I'll be gone over the weekend, though. I'm going to see what I can order when I get back.

I'm waiting on the radio. I haven't ordered any of the other stuff, though. I'm just taking it slow right now, since I have lots more to do with the vehicle it's going in. I wouldn't really use it until I have my license anyway, and I don't even have a learner's permit, so there definitely...

Yeah, I'm trying to stay away from that kind of stuff. An unmodified Cobra 148 NW ST wouldn't be able to send/recieve on the channels I'm not suppost to, right?

Ok, I think I'm ready to try this. Chances are I will start another thread a couple weeks from now asking for installation help. Thanks everyone. :D

Heh, I've read just about everything I needed to in those help documents. Thanks though. Also, they have NO information on that ball mount that I can find... I think I'll just order the antenna, the mount and the spring, then just get what I need for the coax after I see the mount.

Near the rear, about two feet below the roofline. There's already a mount there, I'm just going to replace it(it's in bad shape) so I don't have to put more holes in the body somewhere else.

I'm going with a Cobra 148 NWST. I need the 102 whip because of where it's going to mount. Thanks.

Could you post a link? Google is coming up empty.

Sweet, thanks. Do ball mounts' connectors vary? I mean, can they be either a lug or a PL259? Or are they all the same?

The employees at the radio shack here are idots... They don't know anything about the stuff they sell. I'll look around for something like that.

The 102" whip doesn't need to be tuned?! On a side note: I read somewhere that SWR meters that are built into radios aren't really sensitive enough. Can someone comment on this?

I'm going to replace the mount. It's only half there, the pad isn't in very good shape and the bolt is rusted...

Completely new to CB, lots of questions

Would I need to get a coaxial cable with lugs on one end(or do it myself) to connect it to the ball mount?

Re: 102" whip Look at my above post, I have a 2" ball mount and a spring picked out. There is actually a gutter clip left over from a previous owners antenna(including a mount). It's too small for where I'll need it, though.

Alright, I think I'm starting to narrow it down here... 102" stainless whip 2" ball mount with stainless spring And maybe a Cobra 148NWST? I found one for $123 new.
