The early Super Scouts were manufactured by SOS Electronics in Memphis, TN. Later models were made by several different people. A couple of them in Mississippi, one in Tennessee, one in Kentucky. Early versions were gray with a "snowflake" pattern on the cover. Later ones were a brown/tannish color with the cover having perforated metal on them.
As far as operation it came ready to operate on 11 meters. No coverting required. It was built as a CB amp. The amps are pretty much staightforward in design and if treated right were real reliable. Radio drive is recommended as the price of tubes has skyrocketed in the past few years. A dual final radio is almost too much for it, but to each his own.
Rumor has it that when Maco quit making amps (shut down by the FCC) a few of their engineers got together and started building the Scouts. If you notice there is a lot of similarities between the Scout and Maco's. There were Mini Scouts, Scouts, T Scouts, Cadets, Scout 30, Super Scouts, and Scout KW's. I might have left one or two out as the different builders added modified versions to what they were producing.
There are still plenty of those amps around. Most people who have them don't sell them, that's why you don't see them.
