Possible Antenna Dilemma

Hello:

I've been told this may be antenna problem but not sure.

My truck an 04 Silverado
My Radio a Superstar 3900 HP GOLD Edition
My Antenna A Wilson 1000 Magnet Mount

On certain channels the radio seems like its picking something up as into a Bleep noise - Some Channels it has it some its not even there like tonight it was bleeping to like a 7 signal on Channel 33 but on Channel 35 it wasn't there. I was told to try a base antenna out so I got coax out and put it on my extra A99 and ran it to the truck and hooked it up and it was pretty much gone - Not completely but almost.

When i disconnect the mobile antenna completely from the radio nothing no bleeps or nothing comes thru the radio sound or anything of course I'm not going to hear any traffic either.

The truck is completely off when I do this not even with the key in the iginition. The power leads are going straight to the battery with 1 fuse per polarity on each wire inline. This does the same thing when the truck is running and I'm going down the road.

I can't think of anything else to report but if you ask and suggest hopefully we'll knock this problem out.
 

I don't really see it being an antenna problem because you said it was still there when you hooked it to the 99.

If it was my mobile, I would put another radio in the truck and see what it does.

How far away from your 99 was your truck parked when you tested it? I do suspect that it could be coming from your electrical system. Try moving your truck away from your house, maybe a block and test it on your 99 again.

Maybe get a hold of a 40 ch. walkie-talkie and walk around your truck with it and see if it will pick the "bleep" up.

Another thought; have someone with a mobile park next to your truck and see if the bleep comes thru their radio.

Something else you could try. Dissconnect the battery from the truck, then hook your radio to the battery. With no power going thru your electrical system it may stop...it's worth a try.

My guess is it is not an antenna issue. If it is bad on 33 and not there on 35, then it is an issue with that frequency. Lots of noise out there at times, from neon signs, traffic lights, traffic light sensors, cell phone towers, and the newest one, wireless internet connections, can always hear the sound of a modem when you are near someone with a wireless, router.
 
DXman has the right idea.Even with the key off certain electronics are still powered up.I would disconnect the vehicle battery and power the radio from it or another battery and see if the noise is still there.An antenna will only pick up a noise if there is one there to pick up.You could also try connecting a coax to the radio and leave only about an inch of the center connector exposed on the other end and start "sweeping" the vehicle with it like a probe to locate the source of the noise.Once the source is found then we can start looking at how to cure it.
 
Do you happen to have a cell phone charger hooked up somewhere? I have noticed that when mine is hooked up and charging the phone there is a steady pulse that gets into my radio. No beep but a pulse. Yours might be a beep I guess. Just a thought that crossed my mind when reading your question. Hope this helps in your touble shooting the problem.
