i have a ranger sra-158 hooked up to my anytone it sounds great its using a adapter 6 to 4 but i dont want to swap connectors incase i need the mic for my rci.I can get the texas ranger 4 pin version or a astatic 636l which would be the better choice?

Hell, buy both and see for yourself it's not that much to invest, you may be surprised that the stock mic matches you voice better than the Astatic.

Will the 636L be an marked improvement over my stock mic? Or am I better off going to an amplified one?

Thanks,
Jim

You're comparing noise canceling to non noise canceling. A lot of people keep their mic gain cranked wide open and then use a noise canceling mic, when they could do just as well learning how to use the mic gain.

From what I've read, most users greatly improved how they sound by replacing their cheap stock mic with a better quality one. That's all I'm trying to do. Just not sure which will work best with my measly 3 watts. And don't have a lot of money to spend experimenting.
