I want to step up and get away from my DC boxes(5/16 pill) and make a jump to possibly a pair of 3CX3000A7's with a 3CX800A7 driver for it. Who in here has experience with Tube Mobiles? I understand that this calls for external rectification, but how many alts/amps do I actually need to pull this off? where are you guys purchasing your delta-wye transformers at for these projects, or are you just having the box builder take care of that as well? As you can tell i am a little green when it comes to this and your comments are very welcome to me. Thank you.

the best advice i can give you is download paltalk on to your computer,,,, www.paltalk.com

when you do that? there are a ton of AC builders and people you can talk to ...

If you need help finding a specific room let me know...
ill tell you how to get there...:)

Every time I TRY to turn on PalTalk my Microsoft AntiSpyware Program goes wild and starts foaming at the mouth; my firewall and Anti-virus program labels it as a TROJAN. I don't use it.

Well, CCM has a Comp 3cx3000 for sale. I don't know if 13va still has it or not but he was selling a 3cx3000. Both being DaveMade's. The one I've had the pleasure keying will cruise 5k easy, 8K with a few RPM's haha. Thats a single 250 alt and a 2x8 doing 800w into it. Its a DaveMade aswell, not the competition Model though.

You could always get in touch with Wizard in Chicago he can build what you want or Red Bones in GA can build what you desire too. Or heck why not 55 in FL.

I know what a pair of '3000A7's do at the home 20, and im lusting for it in my burban now. Ive talked to a few builders already and one guy cut through the bullshit for me and hes got my respect right now over the others (you know who you are) And i appriciate ya!

Transformers for Mobile AC Tube Amplifiers

Call or email Peter Dahl. He can make any type of transformer you want.
Most modern automotive alternators are three phase so you will need a three phase transformer to step up the AC voltage from the alternator. Once you have steped up the voltage you have to rectify it and filter it to DC for the plate of the tube.
You control the plate voltage by regulating the current to the field on the amplifier. You can also increase or decrease the plate voltage by using a variable regulator for the field.
To run the filaments on the tubes depending upon the votage and amperage needed you will need to make a regulated power supply to run off of your 13.8 automotive supply. There are many plans posted on the net, search around. Say you were going to run two 3-500z tubes which need 5 volts at 14 amps. You would run the tubes in series 5+5 volts = 10 volts. So you would need a 10 volt power supply at 14 amps. Or you could run the tubes in parallel 5 volts at 28 amps.

What’s up skater? I just discovered this thread, I am just getting around to exploring other parts of this site, guess I got a little lost in the antenna section. I almost forgot that amp building is my true calling! Lol

I was talking to Coily on another thread about making steel whips come to a glow with high energy, and posted these pics of the WCS (Wolf Caged Series) M-5 Unit, four tube - 264 - grid driven pentode box. I though the guys on this thread might appreciate them a lot more. Enjoy
