Icom 7200 + Icom SM-30 Mic

So, I was gifted a pretty cool HF rig (my first one).

I want to set up the mic (it is new in box) but the adjuster on the mic seems open ended! I see it bottoms out when you turn all the way to the left but there is no way to tell what the heck one is adjusting when opening up. Can someone explain this?

Also, the mic gain on the radio side - currently when I check it, the MIC GAIN looks about 90% and I doubt that is the proper spot?

Anybody here have experience?

10. Transmit audio parameters: The IC-7200 has only two transmit audio menu items, Mic Gain and compression level. The DSP IF-level compressor is similar to that provided on other ICOM DSP radios. It works very smoothly, and does not distort at the default compression level value of 5 (approx. 6 dB compression).
