MaCo V5000 Assembly

I’ve heard of Noalox but never used it, thanks.

For now until I put the tower up, I’m going to use a 50’ push up mast that was given to me.

I have 75’ of LMR400 flex that I’m going to use until the tower goes up.
I’m planning on trying to get it dialed in at 10’ using my Azoom antenna analyzer before shoving it up. But have to wait until I get a guy wire kit.

Unless you plan a very good guy line set-up...couple / three on top and same each section. Don't expect that 50 ft pole to go 50 feet.

I would suggest 30 - 35 feet to base of antenna with no more than 5 foot to base of antenna to the closest support below.
You must remember that antenna is over 20 feet long...and WILL MOVE here in the Mid West winds.
The difference in performance between mounted at 30 Ft. securely, and 40 feet whipping around on shaky top section...will most likely never be noticed, and may save the antenna from bending the mast or worse yet antenna come crashing down to scrap metal!!!!
Sweep the antenna so it is resonant (X=0) on your most used section of the band and go from there.
That antenna should be less than 1.5:1 and good all the way across the band.
If you plan on using SSB mostly I would peak the antenna for channel 40 and you should be good to go all the way across and then some.

Thanks BJ Radionut,
Yeah the only reason that I have a 50 footer is that it was given to me and it’s brand new. I figure since I have nothing in it I can afford to buy a guy wire kit with I think 4 sets of 3 with 3’-4’ anchors. But even with that I didn’t really plan on using the whole 50’. My thinking is as long as I get it in the first wavelength I’ll be good.
I do talk mostly SSB so I’d like set the center like you said 38-40.
Thanks so much for the tips/ideas, that’s why I joined this site.

Arch: Looking at the manual...I'll take a SWAG:LOL:
Length 27 MHz = 248 inches
Length 28 MHz = 232 5/8 inches
So a little math 27.5 MHz = 241 inches +/-
SWAG...got to start somewhere...then sweep it.
Set the HOOP a mid-point on the matching network (kinda like a round Gamma Match):ROFLMAO:
See what it does...keep us updated(y)
All the Best
Gary
