This old one is in a mess, can it be saved?

Got another old president on the desk today. This time it's an old President Washington (858) version. This one looks to be in bad shape.

Upon evaluation:
No meter light,
channel indicator dim,
mode lights dim,
radio would almost shut off when keyed,
Dust all throughout the rear (where vents in back are),
All knobs and buttons are corroded on the chrome,

Already done:
Checked power supply caps and DC input caps around the hash transformer and audio IC, along with the 2.2uf Tantalum between the bias wires which is a known problem with these radios.

Just replacing those caps (above) and replacing both 1419 regulators (power supply and passthrough) with 6487g's, brought this radio back to life.

I now have all lights staying on with steady luminance, receive and transmit.

Issues I still have:
No USB transmit at all, not even a whimper of output on USB.

That's the only issue left on this radio, could be just a mode control problem, I'll check into it later.

Right now though:
AM - deadkey 3w, swing up to 13w peak at 1w forward in average,
LSB - 15w peak,
Meter works on both receive and transmit,
All lights work,
All functions work (other than USB),
AC supply and DC supply now works,

Still have to find out why USB won't work on transmit, clean the dust out the back, do a complete alignment, clean all buttons and controls.

While most well known techs are giving up on these old classics and selling out to the new radios, I'll continue bringing life back to these old classics, I'm not giving up on the best radios ever built.

Well,

Update:
Everything turned out great with the alignment and other stuff. Still no upper sideband transmit at all. I think the mode selector may be cracked in that position.

All other repairs ran smoothly,
Complete alignment ran smoothly,
Receive alignment ran smoothly,
All features and controls work perfectly,
All corrosion on knobs and buttons cleaned up nicely, shiny again.

Already talked overseas to Ireland barefoot in it in LSB of 37. Already got great audio reports on AM and LSB.

How I clean chrome knobs and buttons of green overlay (corrosion):

1. Remove all corroded knobs and buttons.
2. Place all knobs and buttons in a small cereal bowl, with tops of controls facing up.
3. Drop a small amount of baking soda over the top of each knob/button, about 1/2 teaspoon total.
4. Pour white vinegar in bowl to cover all knobs/buttons, but don't fill bowl up.
5. The vinegar and baking soda will produce a chemical reaction and foam up, so place the bowl in a sink.
6. Let soak for 20 minutes.
7. Remove each knob/button out of the solution one at a time and clean with a paper towel.
8. Place cleaned knobs/buttons in a separate bowl of clean Luke warm water.
9. Let soak for 5 minutes.
10. Remove each part individually and dry with a paper towel.
11. Lay dried parts top up on a dry towel.
12. Let dry for about 20 minutes.
13. Polish with soft lint free cloth.
14. Reinstall all knobs/ buttons back on radio.
You should end up with a new like polished chrome shine.
