Anytone at-5555 PLUS

There are two United Kingdom resources claiming to have the "N" version, but as you can see in my previous post, the photo which MOONRAKER provided is not convincing.
Yeah, it's all about diversity. One factory with six or seven different production lines to produce different variants of the same cookie-cutting radio.
I stumbled onto this.

NOISE REDUCTION The menu on the AT-5555N II only has one noise cancelling feature. NR but it is adjustable. My initial impression of the noise reduction on the AT-5555 Plus /N is that it is too aggressive. Some background artifacts almost like FM broadcasts bleed through, but we don’t have any FM transmitters nearby. Need to play with it some more, but it resembles setting 5 on the N II and tends to distort the received audio. It also takes a few milliseconds to start working which is a bit frustrating. The other thing with the noise reduction is that you have to go into the menu to activate and deactivate it. This is a pain. You need it on a button and you need it adjustable. Adjust it in the menu and activate it on a switch. The AT-5555 Plus has 8 switches with 15 functions…surely 2 of those could be repurposed? Better still: put the echo controls into memory and put the NR and NC on the echo knobs so it could be readily adjustable. NC? So far it just seems to make more noise. Not much, but certainly doesn’t reduce it on Sideband. Another thing I noticed on this radio and not on the earlier versions of the AT-5555 that when you are in the menu the channel indicator shows the menu number. That's handy because sometimes it is tricky to know exactly where you are in the menu. Of course you will need the manual to see what the menu number is associated with. Just found out that you can’t have the Noise compander and the Noise reduction on together. Turning one on will turn the other off! The noise reduction does knock out lots of background noise…sometimes almost all the hash. Still don’t know what the compander is supposed to achieve. Time might tell.

I haven't been successful with locating a new "N" version. I received this from MOONRAKER in the United Kingdom. Tough to believe that the factory would ship a new radio to a distributor or dealer like this.
That's the same box mine came in with no check mark but of course was sold and purchased as the Plus.

Info for all!
Anderson Radio Supply now has the AT-5555N.
I just looked at ARS and the only quad 5 listed is the Plus, not Plus N. They do reference in the description "NEW" but I think that is the same outline that has been up since the introduction of the AT-5555 Plus. This being said, they do of course have the AT-5555N II.

I received email from ARS today with photos. Stand-by.

That's cool but they don't list a Plus N on the site. ✌✌
Yes, I am aware of that and that is why I sent an email to them and they replied with the photos to confirm they have the "N" version. If you are serious about ordering the N version, I recommend for you to call and order by phone to verify you are buying the N version.

I don't understand the big commotion about this (N) version over the plus. What does it have that's so phenomenal over the plus version?
Supposedly an updated (latest and greatest) reduced noise reduction circuit? I have the AT-5555Plus and the RETEVIS Ailunce HS4. The HS4 has the same "bell and whistle" as the AT-5555Plus N and I cannot hear / notice the difference. I posted a review relating to the N version on 11 September.
The difference between the AT-5555Plus and the HS4 is;
Function menu # 9 on the HS4 is where you can adjust the noise reduction settings from 1 to 5 or OFF. Number #9 on the Function menu AT-5555Plus is not for the noise reduction setting.
Update: Just received the User Manual for the HS4. Page 7, Line #08 is for setting the noise reduction level, but Function Menu on the radio is actually #9.

Good info. ✌✌

The AT-5555Plus is a great transceiver with beautiful audio and good receive but has a tremendous lack of noise reduction. I'm sure you have heard me state I have as much as 5 to 7 s-units of noise and this is why. If they indeed have produced the same radio with a good noise blanking or reduction system it would be phenomenal and the "N" version is supposed to be this. ✌✌

Buy the Retevis HS4 and be done with it.
Look close and enlarge the attached photo I received from a radio dealer in the United Kingdom. The original check-mark was for a AT-5555 Plus and was erased. I doubt that the factory did that. Buyer beware!

The User Manual for the HS4 does not match-up with the radio. Page 07, Line # 8 is not for setting the noise reduction values. Function Menu #9 on the radio is for setting the noise reduction values.

I Bought a hs4 and overall happy with it. I am a 5555n2 fan and owner along with a og 6666 and the 6666 pro. I have to say as great as the anytones are imo, i vibe more to the control layout of the hs4 over the n2's and 6666s. User pref i guess :)

Ever since the last time I participated in this forum I never got a chance to perform the npc mod on the quad 5 plus due to a trade offer I couldn't refuse where I made good proffitt tho I did perform the npc mod on a president Ronald I still have and the mod really brings those little radios to life.
I missed the quad five I traded so just a few hours earlier I went ahead and purchased a new quad 5 plus from Anderson Radio Supply so it should be delivered here by Monday hopefully and as soon as it arrives I'll be perform the npc mod right away so I can give the radio it's permanent place on my radio desk that has had an empty bare spot far to long where a quad 5 plus is supposed to be mounted on my radio desk.
The last quad 5 I had was traded to a almost brand new Texas star/killer bee 250 amplifier that I still have and use daily and so far I haven't felt like I made a bad trade to a friend of mine who begged me for a week to either sell or trade to him the radio.
He could have purchased a brand new quad 5 from many various online retailers but he wants to be weird about buying anything from the internet, the idea of it just does not set right with him in his exact words yet his reasons for such behavior is unknown to me.
