Texas Star DX500 max input?

I ran a RCI 2950 into a Texas Star V Mod +, which in turn drove a Texas Star DX-500 way back in the early to mid 1990's. 70 watts PEP on the V Mod would produce 700 watts PEP on the DX-500 all day long in my stock 1985 Ford F150. Ran it for at least 4 or 5 years like that, until I bit the bullet and got my technician ticket. I've been told that the current production models won't accept the abuse like the ones back then would. Of course, that seems to be true with just about anything we buy these days....

Today these drive levels are rolling the dice, on a very large bet.
I still have this same 500, it has lasted going on 40 years now and the reason is I keep output below 400 watts on a peak reading meter.
It has seen some abuse, I once got the mic stuck down in the seat, radio and amp keyed on AM until it flattened the batteries in my truck.
It literally melted the meter out of the amp, not dripping but melted enough that it fell loose from the face of the amp.
I replaced the meter and it still works as well as the day I bought it.
Removing the poor fuse holders, upgraded power wires and a fan and the 500 is a very good amp when run below the 400 watt level.
At the cost of original Toshiba transistors for me it's not worth beating on it.

This is what I found in Google. If that amp has HG pills, I think it’s lower PEP. Maybe somebody knows that info.

Yes that is a new version with HG finals. That is a very steep price. For that kind of money I would just have one built below. Just add the class B bias and SSB delay, still cost less and comes with a fan.
