The 667 is a finicky animal. I've had 4 if them. 1 I had wouldnt squinch put more than 400 watts ( and it was new, I sent it back to texas star 3 times, and it never was right, so they just replaced it), 2 that ran right at about 550 PEP with a 2.5w drive swinging to about 30w, and one that was a frickin monster and ran about 700-750 depending on the radio I was pushing it with. Always been a big 667 fan,then.....
I picked up an old tx-four hundred the other day ( 1980s i think) that is also a 1x4 amp,it has RF85s in it ( military equivalent to the MRF454, or the SRF3795) and it runs out and sounds better than any of the 667s I ever had,and it does around 550+ PEP AM and was kissing a solid 800 on SSB.
I think there are a lot of variables no matter what amp you get. And remeber, the model number printed on the front of most amps ( like the dx667) isn't the output wattage. It's a model number in most cases. I've had amps that were labeled as 1000 that did 500, and I've had amps labeled like 150 that would PEP 400 watts with ease...
