Got a Sears RoadTalker 40 base on the desk today.

Issue:
Powers on and that's it. Very little hiss in speaker with volume wide open.
No transmit.
Meter light out.

Evaluation:
Needs recapping throughout.
No hackery anywhere in this radio.

Got the receive and transmit issue fixed.
Turned out to be an open solder joint near the VCO. Receives good and transmits great now. Noise blanker shuts receive completely off when engaged, thinking a bad cap. Gonna recap and get back later.

I have looked for a service manual for this radio but can't seem to locate one. Anyone here have a working link to this service manual or alignment info they would share? Greatly appreciated.

Holla back later guys/gals...

Good ol Hitachi board. :)

The very last Sears Roadtalker SSB radio was the one that was a Cobra 146 GTL radio inside, the rest of the SSB radios were all Hitachi.

I am unsure if I snagged the service manual for that radio when someone else posted it, or there is a gentlemen here that has a vast collection of Sam's manuals. He may have one. The thread name I forget but he is good about responding when he can.

The layout reminds me of the JCPenney 6241, which is in Sam's CB-235. I can't find this exact model listed anywhere for schematics or service manual, sorry.

I will check my Sams collection and see if I have it... Dan

My Sams index does not list 934-38270701 is stops at 934-38270700. The radio must have been made after Sams quit publishing...
I dont think there was an actual board change on that slant face, but strange it ends in 1 instead of a 0. Surely it has to be the same Hitachi board in it.

Now I want to bring out an old slant face radio and put it on my desk. :D

FCC Data - CM-2358S
Serial No. 047345
Just checked again, it is 70701.

I've read that the JC Penny 6248 is basically the same radio. I found a service manual on Scribd for the 6248 but I don't have an account to download it. Anyone have the JC Penny 6248 service manual?
