Got a Sears RoadTalker 40 base on the desk today.
Issue:
Powers on and that's it. Very little hiss in speaker with volume wide open.
No transmit.
Meter light out.
Evaluation:
Needs recapping throughout.
No hackery anywhere in this radio.
Got the receive and transmit issue fixed.
Turned out to be an open solder joint near the VCO. Receives good and transmits great now. Noise blanker shuts receive completely off when engaged, thinking a bad cap. Gonna recap and get back later.
I have looked for a service manual for this radio but can't seem to locate one. Anyone here have a working link to this service manual or alignment info they would share? Greatly appreciated.
