My brother is getting back into the CB deal. He just got a Bearcat 980SSB from Walmart DOT COM site. Figured it would have come bone stock but it does 20-25 on AM and up to 20W on SSB with 12.5V supply so its likely not bone stock. Anyway, I have not bought a vertical CB antenna in over 2 decades and my brother was asking about them and what to buy. My go to vertical has always been the Maco 5/8's, Radio shack 0.64 ground plane (yes hard to find), and the Imax2000 with modified ground plane and 1:1 current balun because its an endfed vertical. Before y'all blast the Imax2000 I know all the bad and good about them, its got its purpose here at my station, its really good on 15 meter and just so/so on 12/11/10 meter. So, I have an extra Maco 5/8's that he can use until he buys another Maco 5/8's but, he was asking me about this Sirio brand and I have no clue about them or any other recent brands. What is a good 11M vertical to get these days and are they better then the Maco 5/8's?? He will likely never be running more then a four pill amp not volted.
 

Why the preference for the Sirio 2016 over the Maco 5/8's??? What does it have over the Maco? Only asking because I am not familiar with this brand at all nor have I heard anyone say they use it. I am not doubting anyone, I just dont know why its better.

I have base antennas that have not been marketed yet. True 5/8 wave, similar to V58, but better in several ways. They are $155 plus shipping. I can tell you more if interested.

The 10K ( both the interceptor and colossal) are very robust builds, the advantages are high power handling and resistance to bad weather, you can't change physics and a 5/8 is a 5/8 wavelength antenna.
The Maco will work very close to both of these antennas, however it's not going to stand up to ice and wind like the 10 k variants.
The cost is reflected in how well they stand up to brutal weather, not that they have big gains in signal over a standard 5/8 ground plane.
I ran J's interceptor 10K here in the Sierra for years and it handled snow loads, ice, mono winds and winter storms and never failed.
