Galaxy DX 959 Using as a base, Attached to a 12ft Patriot Antenna about 30ft in the air. I can get out, but can't receive more than a mile?

A friend had the same antenna and problem. He ended up relocating it further away from his house and storage building. Worked well for him afterwards.
