    Finally Did It...

The GMRS group in the Miami area has a repeater antenna up on top of a tall building, so it is several hundred feet up in the air. Boaters with GMRS walkie talkies have hit the Miami repeater from the Bahamas. The South Florida set up serves its area really well.

    Finally Did It...

GMRS seems to have pockets across the country where it is popular. There is a fair amount of GMRS traffic in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. There is also a small group down in Key West.

WHAT ANTENNA ARE YOU USING FOR YOUR GMRS BASE?

Similarly, most of us realize that an A99 really doesn't have 9.9 db (or even dbi) gain. That said, the Comet 712-EFC has outperformed every other GMRS omni antenna I've tried in real world conditions.

Using 2 102" whips horizontal opinions?

Question: Is it a half wave dipole? A half wave suggests you've got a half wave radiator. That would generate a lot of resistance and require a matching network. I think what we see here is a nice, neat center fed dipole. Input and comments welcome

WHAT ANTENNA ARE YOU USING FOR YOUR GMRS BASE?

After much research, I went with a Comet 712-EFC. I've compared it to a few different antennas - including a 3db gain Sinclair, a 7.2 db gain Retevis MA 09 and a few others. The Comet delivers a lot of bang for very reasonable bucks. Our local amateur radio club was impressed enough that it...

End of Year SSB Net: December 28th (LSB 16) and 29th (USB 35) The USB 35 experiment appears to have gone well. At the same time, some folks are still liking the LSB 16 effort - especially for the folks that still use old 23 channel radios. Let's close out the year with 2024's final week-end...

Average distance for a Bone Stock 11 Meter SSB radio.

With a magnetic mount on my car, I'm able to talk 20 miles to my base and have been able to go as far as 30. There is a station 25 miles away that I can talk to base to base with no problems.
