    Anytone at-5555 PLUS

There isn't a stock resistor. I'll take a clearer photo of my radio tonight with the resistor and diode together.

    Anytone at-5555 PLUS

The smaller the resistor the more it will swing but it becomes harder to achieve 100 percent negative peaks from carrier levels over one or two watts, and it makes the radio sound quieter and quieter. I wouldn't use anything smaller than about a 470 ohm.

It's in series with the diode. It doesn't matter which end of the diode. That pic only shows a diode. I only put a diode in at first with no resistor, then was so excited it worked I snapped a pic and posted the location for the mod!

Great job figuring out the software issue!

If you do the NPC mod you can get closer to 20 watts from a one watt carrier. It helps and cleans up the low carrier sound.

You are welcome. How's those audio reports?

I am sure he is absolutely correct about the Stryker BPS menu but on my 5555 plus I can see it change my RX on an AF spectrum analyzer. It doesn't really make it wider or narrower it's more like a gain adjustment from the looks of it. I don't know for sure, nor do I know why it would be...

    Anytone at-5555 PLUS

Yes the diode standing up is the NPC mod. This was a preliminary pic just to show the location of the mod. A resistor must be placed in series with the diode to limit the amount of negative peak compressing otherwise the negative peaks will not make it to zero. I don't remember the value...

I was wrong about menu 31 and 32. It was late and I think I turned it off and on too fast or something. 31 and 32 definitely control RX and TX passband.

    Ranger AR-3500 Receive Issue

Here's a pic of the solder side of mine. I took this the day I got the radio. I have often wandered about all the bodged parts on these radios for them still to work as well as they do.

    AT-6666 or Kenwood TS-50 ?

That era Kenwood's AM was just Double Sideband with a carrier inserted to demodulate it. All low level AM that ran through the SSB filter. They are terrible on AM with no mods. The best you can hope for with no mods is that someone can understand you...those are facts. I love those old Kenwood's...

    Ranger AR-3500 Receive Issue

My 3500 also has the capacitor "sorcery" lol it has a very hot RX but also very good RX. I do run the RF gain down to around one o'clock and that seems to make the signal to noise ratio very good on mine. This is good info you guys have sorted on these great old rigs. Mine is still one of the...

    AT-6666 or Kenwood TS-50 ?

Copy that. I've never worked in that bad of an environment so I really can't comment. I like radios so if it was me I would buy it if it was fairly priced! I would also try some station grounding and bonding techniques to see if that helps. If you're a ham it might help to contact the power...

    AT-6666 or Kenwood TS-50 ?

They all "can" sound good if you carefully monitor your audio. I have a 870, 850 with DSP100, a 440 and quite a few others. I used to be big with eSSB and back 15 years ago or so I was sorta big on 75 meter AM and enjoyed modifying rice boxes to sound pretty nice on AM but as far as CB is...

    AT-6666 or Kenwood TS-50 ?

Kenwood's suck for CB style AM. That said, a TS-50 is a good HF radio. It depends on what you want to do. I love my 6666 and I love my HF rigs (I'm a Kenwood fanboy too) but I use them very differently from each other to fulfill whatever is needed at the time. 73' Panic Attack

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

It's not wrecked. Look at it on a scope before such assumptions are made. I'm far from a screwdriver kid ;) The 5555 Plus that I did this on was a bit puny and the negative peaks would cut off trying to get any swing out of it. It was clipping at 20 watts pep from 3 watts carrier. This just...

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

The NPC mod I posted in the 5555 Plus thread will work with this radio as well. Just if anyone is interested.

    Anytone at-5555n II (version 2)

I wish I could have found the N2 before I bought my 5555plus. I like the plus but I miss a continuous VFO. The 5555 Plus doesn't skip at all. My Quad 6 only skips if I make a mistake and like half click it or something.

My Quad 6 doesn't skip. It's approaching a year old in my SUV and I spin the crap out of the knob lol.

    Stryker 955/655 V2 NPC mod?

I wrote about it in the Anytone 5555 Plus page. I posted a pic of the NPC mod I developed for this chassis. I use rack gear on my 5555 plus and it turned out great with the NPC mod. Check it out. You must be able to solder very very good to pull this mod off!
