Recapping the entire radio I think may have resolved that issue. Just got finished recapping it, checked over everything then hooked it up and checked it out. Receive seems better with less hash, haven't realigned it yet, figured I would let it sit for an hour and settle with the new caps. LSB...
I been working on my personal galaxy Saturn lately trying to get my base setup. I've already recapped the entire audio section due to it having a hollow watery sound in all modes in transmit, that's with all the limiters intact. Got great reports on transmit audio, best reports I've gotten on...
Yes, we can hear audio transmitting to another radio in the same room.
Odd thing is, the driver bias adjustment will adjust for voltage fine, but will stay at 0 when checking current draw. I figured the driver VR had blown enough to still carry voltage but not current, that's why I replaced the...
Trust me, everyone around here is fed up with him. Constantly starts arguments with another local drunk, but then turns into a victim when people snap on him. This guy goes from channel to channel looking for an argument.
He thinks everyone around here is mad at the other local drunk, but we're...
Got a 2995DX-CF with no output, no meter movement at all in any mode on external or internal meter.
Everything else works great.
Story behind how this happened:
This radio is only about 2 years old. After a year went by and the warranty went out, the original owner asked me to throw an...
Update:
Owner picked it up, took it home, hooked it up to his base setup, only 50w, then called me and brought it back for me to check out, I told him to bring his watt meter also so I could check it out.
Evaluation:
Radio works perfectly fine, still doing 130w PEP. No issues at all with the...
This radio turned out awesome. The owner has several radios I've already gone through, plus a few newer ones, but he chooses this one and the latest Saturn I did for him (got from a ham fest cheap). He can't get over how this single final Melaka is able to drive his amps almost as much as his...
Well, detuning it only brought the carrier down to 10w, and the swing only came down to 130w PEP. Although it doesn't warm up as quickly, and the swing seems more responsive to voice now. Ok, whatever works, lol... Already tested it on the air and I got great reports from bases and mobiles that...
Well, it turned out great. Little more PEP swing compared to deadkey than I like, but it works and sounds great.
Output:
PEP - 135w
Peak - 90w
Average - 60w
Carrier - 12w
Warms up a little quicker than I like though. I may detune it a little to bring that average down some, which should...
The front end of R208 in front of the final (offset between driver and final) has 8v on it in transmit and 0 volts in receive. The opposite (back side) lead of R208 has around 3.15v. So I guess I'll tap into the front lead of R208. The other wires are simple to find and wire up. I will have to...
Anyone know where on the bearcat 880 (surface mount version) I could pick up the +8v transmit only source for the RFX95HD? Also, Any tips on installing this module on the 880?
Yes, you read the title right, lol ..
A local friend of mine, who is very good on electronics (for himself) tried another "One of a kind" project.
His last project was the Galaxy DX-55-300, in which he mounted the sled amp from a Connex CX4300-300 (bad main board) into a Galaxy DX-55V. That...
Finally got around to throwing this one back in the desk to figure out that 1k constant tone on transmit (carrier) issue.
Someone had bridged the collector of the AMC limiter (TR32) to another circuit which went straight to pin 7 of the mic amp (4558), I fixed that mess. This in turn connected...
Got a Galaxy DX - 55V (EPT360014B) on the desk. This radio came from the old local technicians shop when he quit the hobby years ago. It was taken from the shop with this issue already, he never got it fixed before he quit the hobby, so I don't have any info on what caused this failure.
Issue...
Check the solder spots on the bottom of the board for J17. I've seen several radios on my desk with loose solder joints on J17. Also, check RF Power control.
