I'm happy to state that my homemade tiltable, pulley-assisted, cordless drill powered contraption is still standing tall and proud. It's been through a rough Wisconsin winter and plenty of strong summer storms. It's still dead-simple to lower and raise it myself using nothing more than a 3/8...
Does the QT-60 Pro have the same expanded bands as the new 6666 Pro? The video on the 6666 Pro thread linked to by AudioShockwav shows which jumper you need to move to enable 15 and I think 11 meters.
Thanks for the leads. Hopefully the fuse and fuse holder can be eliminated from the list of suspects since it's now been tried with at least 3 power cords and 3 power supplies at two different locations.
I have lineman gloves, a newer multimeter, a clamp meter, a second power supply I used when...
Well, the Q5N2 carcass arrived home today. I gave it a quick test to see if the excitement of the voyage and change of scenery improved its mood at all, but no such luck. SSB modulation is still awful and the display still dims some in line with SSB modulation and RF power level. AM/FM seems to...
Yes, me too. I will have the radio back in my hands on Monday now and I think I will be game to try just about anything the subject matter experts on here think I can reasonably try without a) injuring myself or b) burning down my humble home or c) not having to invest a bunch of money in...
I'm still hopeful the radio is repairable once I find the right tech that will take a look at it. Better for the radio to remain in use than end up in a landfill somewhere, as long as it makes financial sense to fix it rather than replace it.
I love reading about these types of repairs. Lots in it for me to learn.
And now I know where to send my flaky Anytone Q5N2 for some magical recovery! :)
I agree, but then again I always like second opinions. Last year when I was trying to find someone to help me out with a self-inflicted issue I was having with a different Anytone I had, I had zero success finding anyone that would agree to look at it. It was either they don't service this type...
There's a real BC lad, full of truth. ;) This is coming from a lad that was born and raised in southwestern Ontario but somehow ended up in the USA. :) My aunt and cousins all live in Vancouver and Victoria.
To me, no assembly line is perfect and deviations are bound to occur. At least for...
It's no big secret I am referring to Scott's Radios. I have purchased 3 radios and a bunch of other stuff from him. In my eyes, he's A+, what a vendor should be and I plan on continuing to use his services.
The main reason I did not bother initially contacting him is because of these statements...
Yup, I did sent an email both to the vendor and to ken6833@qxdz.cn, whom I am told has something to do with Anytone.
I am not looking to blame anyone for anything. Stuff happens, it's just this time it caught me off guard because I have really been behaving myself and taking good care of all my...
While I certainly can't eliminate anything as the root cause, my understanding of what was done was that it was actually bringing the radio back into spec, not taking it out of spec. But I also do not have any technical expertise to back that up.
Now to decide what second radio to get. I really...
Well, I got the results back from the doctor/tech. Not good news. Here's his diagnosis:
I bought this radio on March 22, 2023 from a vendor in Michigan that is well known and respected by many on this site (including me). He did the 11 meter mod and also fixed up the modulation and lowered...
All of the different things I tried (power supply, power cord, fuses, mics, cussing, complimenting) did not help so I sent it a few towns over to have a tech I've used before have a look at it.
In the meantime, I've been using my Lincoln II+V4. Although the receive on it is nowhere near as...
Is there a recommended size or number of ferrites I should try? I think about 5 pounds of them should properly sink this radio to the bottom of Lake Michigan. ;)
It's only happening on the Anytone (not the Lincoln II+), only on SSB, and on multiple power supplies. But I learned on here the hard...
I finished checking the bias and it all looked very close to spec. I also checked the voltage where power enters the chassis. It's 13.8 volts coming in, drops to 13.6 volts under AM whistling and to 12.0 volts SSB when I do the same whistle. Both were done with the radio set to full output...
It's a miracle! I actually found something I was looking for in my workshop, tucked away in a container with extra DVM leads. Nice! Almost time to check the bias and voltage. Maybe I'll get lucky there too and something easily fixable will present itself.
I did a bit more testing into a dummy load and tried with several power supplies. The Lincoln II+ V4 works fine off these same power supplies.
On SSB, the Q5N2's display will dim a bit every time I whistle or speak a word in direct relation to the radio's output power level setting i.e. the...
