Same issue here! 980ssb into rm203 and a Tram tbc-9 coil antenna. 1.8 with amp off and 1.1 with it on! Tried a Wilson silver load and a 102” whip and all are doing it with different swr readings.

Have a similar issue myself. My swr shows 1.3 on each end of the 40 channels with amp off but when it’s on it drops to 1.0 - 1.1

980 with a rm203 is what I’m running. Added a Cobra 75 power mic and get great reports. The mic was given to me and I plan on a upgrade after Christmas.

I know this is an old thread but....would upgrading from a 203p to a 503 be worth it?

I’m thinking of upgrading to the 503 amp but thinking I won’t see much improvement?

I actually have about $400 invested in my setup. 980 with the 203p a Tram triple mag mount and a Tram TBC 9 antenna. I had a predator 10k but it was stolen and I found the tram for $15 on Walmart.com!

I will also say the uniden 980 with a RM Italy KL203 amp as that’s what I’m currently using. If I can hear them I can talk to them.

Very difficult answer here..do you need 10-12 meters? If not personally I would go with a Stryker 955 over the galaxy due to drifting. Running it on lower output power to use your amp. If 10-12 meter is needed then I would get the 2970. Both radios I mentioned are more stable than the Galaxy.

Extremely directional to the front and really not a good option..what about using a piece of aluminum or metal to make a small D shape and mount it through the bed rail centered behind rear window with a 5” whip antenna should clear the cab enough to get a decent SWR . You could use the 102”...
