Some radios are more prone to drift than others. Generally processor controlled radios are more stable then say a Galaxy sailboat on SSB. You might do some research on a TCXO circuit and see if it could be added to your radio. Sometimes clarifier mods have a negative effect on frequency...
Thanks guys. Actually a beam was my first choice but for now I’m going to run the imax and then 12 feet away run a 2m on the 20 foot mast where the imax is now. Should work well until next summer. I’m in Indiana, my lot is 390 feet deep so neighborhood is not a problem for a tower.
So my summer project has been get a hole dug and a concrete pad poured with a tilt base. I am ready for the final install here in the next several weeks. I am putting up an IMAX 2000 with a ground plane kit. I plan on using this for 10 and 11m. Right now with three ten foot sections of American...
Nothing old school ran reliably at 19 volts. That's a nice radio, hate to see what would happen if a mistake was made by keying up with no antenna connected. What has some potential to be interesting for a base amp would be those ldmos finals that run at 50 volts. Something class AB in 10 and...
I think ohm's law still applies to mosfets. I saw recently that the 13n10 has been discontinued and they are now very tough to find. Switch Kit the 2030 mosfet's that Magnum radio's used are also gone as well as the 7530 mosfet in the RFX-75's. It's like Toshiba finals all over again.
We can...
Yea that’s a nice meter. It’s possible the radio might have been clipped or over tuned. Sometimes that can splash into a watt meter and give erroneous readings.
I don’t think I would agree that mosfets have proven to be more durable. Good radio techs and manufacturers have figured out how to make them work but over all they suck. I’ll take any radio that’s dual 1969’s or 2312’s over mosfets. Just ask some RCI n2 and n4 owners how many times they have...
The only thing you do to a Uniden Grant xl is give it a good alignment. If you really need to add extra channels and unlock the clarifier. It’s such a great stable low powered radio you just don’t mess with them. They match up great to about any 2 pill amp or a kl203. Clipping 131 will bring up...
Checked out his web site, very cool and looks like he does good work. I think his best bang for the buck would be a biased 4 pill base amp. Not a big fan of amps with a driver stage (1x4, 2x4, 2x6 and so on). With most of today’s radio’s being higher power a driver stage is not needed. Something...
SSB should never have a carrier, it’s all modulated wattage. Since it sounds great on AM either just run it on AM or like you said, send it back to be biased forSSB use. Great looking amp board and work. Interesting how he crammed those power supply’s in there, not sure what to think about that.
If it’s a class C amp with no SSB delay switch it would unusable on SSB right now. You will need class B or class AB for ssb use. With no delay switch on ssb the amp will click and chatter the whole time. Also at 40-45 watts peak input your over driving the piss out of it. The 2290’s are your...
Ok good catch. Sorry my delta has the pa on the adjustable mode knob. And in the pic below you can see they added the function to the RF power on the Omegaforce S45.
I'll have to get my Delta out and check later. I think PA mode is either a turn to click option on one of the front knobs or maybe it was a push in on the same knobs. I think some Delta's had this and some did not.
