The radio was working with 5 watts swing to about 8 on am then I noticed the 2 watts am.
SSB is 15 watts
AM with 2 watts has good audio.
external power supply is 14v @35 amps.
the AM amp pot works it will adjust to 0 watts then to 2 watts as I described.
When adjusted to 0 dead key and you talk...

Im just getting back to the 148GTL NW ST just 1 radio. Sorry for the confusion.
I replaced the TR38 2166 driver and the TR36 1969 final and same results 2 .5 watts on AM. So on this radio TR41 they use a KTC4369 and on the emitter when I key the radio voltage drops to 4.6 volts with...
Well put this radio on the shelf about 3 months ago and now back trying to find out why LOW AM output of 2 watts.
The radio is all stock
SSB power is 15 watts
the AM output is only 2 watts no matter what I do to tune the radio.
Also seems the bright/dim on the radio does not get that bright...
Well I have decided to put this project on the shelf and find another problem which I will post in a few days.
Thanks to all who posted help and suggestions.
brandon7861 im trying to do the 40 up/40 down bands instead of the pll mod that has channels in different positions. As as mentioned the Viagra boards did this and no longer made. There are some floating around but trying to get this on my own.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
Again just having fun.
So I tried NZ8N suggestion and if i disable/unsolder the 15.360 xtal and then inject the 15.810 for high or the 14.910 for low it will work great on Am dead center. SSB is off as I mentioned and explained in the above post.
Also the voice...
Here is the oscillator board im using its electronic switching. and works well on most radios but the 959 is a bit of a challenge.
Again I can do all 40 above and 40 below for AM but the ssb sides will not align so the middle of the rotary or the 3 way toggle is regular channels and will work...
So I have done plenty of the 959 channel mods and they are on 4 different sections 27.965-26.665 close enough.
I know about the viagra boards-not made anymore.
So i have been reading someones post I saved and seems you can use a oscillator board to add the standard 40 up and 40 down.
use the...
All coax are tight and grounds
C18 is fine I replaced with new one and same results.
So i was on lower ssb 38 and audio is fine no squeal or induced noise in the audio.
When I go to AM and transmit you can hear the noise in the audio.
If I back down the mic and the radio to about 1/4 both, it...
on the plus 3 B mic its 4 wires and pins 2 and 4 are jumped.
on the super side kick its 5 wires.
I will try to replace C18
will report back.
Thanks nomadradio
1 mic is a super sidekick 5 wire and the other a plus3B is a 4 wire with a 5 pin plug.
The 4 wire mic I have a jump so it will work on the 2000.
The 5 wire mic was already wired.
Both mics induce noise into the audio if turned past 1/4 way up then you can see the meter move up.
The stock hand...
So i got in a Cobra 2000.gtl it had a roger beep and a train noise toy. I removed them and had to rewire the wires back to the mic jack on the radio.
I have a Turner +3 and a Turner super sidekick desk mics.
both older 5 pin connectors.
Tr24 was removed in radio but I replaced it back removed...
Update on the 29LTD
removed D19 checked out ok
Removed C112 and Bingo it was shorted replaced and radio working.
Again thanks to all for the info posted on what to check out.
Thanks for the reply
Already looked and probed for cold solder joints. Just have to get a good schematic and trace back to the voltage thats suppose to be at the pll, im sure that is why no transmit/recv.
thanks
I have a cobra 29LTD lights up bright dim works Green receive Led and red Led work when mic is keyed.
Radio has no receive no transmit and I tried next to a radio to transmit dead cold and i tried to transmit a radio and to see if i had any receive cold dead.
