Hey Everyone,
I have finished a Tram D62 repair and alignment by using the Cobra 132XLR info as I cannot find anything specific to the Tram. I was able to find a few differences but there was one VR that I cannot seem to figure out what its for.
Thank you both for your thoughts!!! The logic challenge I have is that the talkback effect only happens when the truck radio has power (even if its turned off). The only time this does not happen is when the truck is turned off and therefor no power to the radio. I am expecting that because...
Hi Everyone,
I had a few amps come across the desk this week and I thought I would try one in my truck as I don't run one regularly. I connected a Pride 150 up to my Tram D62 and all of that is connected to a Wilson 5000 mag mount. When running the radio with the amp on it came through the...
Thanks Shockwave!! Is there anything I can do to be sure they are adjusted right for 10 and 11 meters? I know that is the limit of frequencies this op will be using this for. The are adjusted as they were when I opened it up.
Hi Everyone,
So, outside of replacing pills or power cords on amps I have not had much of an opportunity to work on them. I have seen in many of the amps they may have a variable cap for alignment but I have no idea what these 2 adjustable coils are for (see attachment). It has the overall...
I did have trouble when adjusting the radio using current bias. It had VERY low output power. Also, when adjusting it I could get one final set to 50mA and then when adjusting the second final I could get it to about 70mA total and then it would jump to over 150mA. It was VERY frustrating. Even...
OK, so this radio is fixed. Regarding the low power and regulator running hot I replaced the 3 520's and aligned it for voltage measured at the gate and not for current. The radio also had a VERY unstable frequency on AM. I had found that the slug in L20 was loose as the previous op had...
I think the biggest challenge I have is sending out a radio and then having it come back off frequency or with bad audio because someone opened it up and made thier own adjustments. I take pictures of every radio to show where all of the adjustments are at the time it is taken. I've only had 2...
I've never done that so I will need to let other comment on that logic. I will say that this radio has an indent at 12 o'clock so the control kinda stays there. I guess that is a prevention from the accidental bump.
Well, I did a few things to the radio before I read this so darn!!!
I replaced the 520's with 3 new ones. I buy mine from Digikey so I feel confident that they are good. I got the same results. I also replaced the Max Mod with a brand new Tip36. Things are very strange now. The Tip36 is...
Thanks so much!! This radio has the 0011D board. I was using the alignment proceedures from the 98VHP (as recommended) as I could not find one specific to this radio. I can set the driver down to 15ma no problem. I expected the AM power to go from 10 watts down to maybe 1 but am only able to...
Hi Everyone,
I have a 99V2 from a local op on the bench. It had a failed clarifier unlock issue. I completed the clarifier mod and aligned the PLL and it is now ok and on frequency. I noticed that the radio has one of the Palomar Max Mod regulators in place of the original. As I performed...
3-5825A is the single board like the one in the Telsat SSB140
3-5825B is the double board like the ones in the GE Superbase
For the A (the same as the SSB140
PLL02A PTBM048A0X LAFAYETTE TELSAT SSB140
- Remove diode D-5
- Lift (disconnect) resistor R24 other side from D4 ie: leave D4 end of...
Hey Everyone,
I am back on the Tram D62. Nomad was correct and the alignment was the issue with the lack of 36-40. I am now working on the alignment and while the Cobra 132XLR docs are great there is 1 thing that has me baffled. There is an adjustment VR 206 and an IC TA7046 that is in the...
They are not 100% perfect in that some adjustments like R93 (mod meter) and R36,R89 (SSB) Bias adjustment do not exist in the Tram version as they are only in the Cobra.
The Tram D62 is the same (inside) as a Cobra 132XLR. I have attached the schematic and the alignment docs for your use. There are so many questions to ask regarding the no transmit so we will just start here.
Well, ok then. That makes snese. I just got got home (a few days early) and I spent a few minutes at the bench. I was looking at the schematic and was wondering why I would not just take the frequency measurement at pin 10 of the PLL. Many radios are done that way. Well, don't you know, the...
