Yeah I have to agree on the mosfets. They seem to be the way to go especially if you are on a base setup. As far as mobile the power supply has to be worked out, not that it would be hard just means using a SMPS or relays to series and parallel the batteries to get the 48V or 50 that they...
You can also filter the harmonics on a class C amp just might take a few more components(or poles if you will) to attune them.
Like mole is saying it would not take much adjusting to convert a class c to ab. Just add the regulation unit and adjust tuning for the phase shift.
It has been my experience if the matched sets are not as important as some think. Ask the major builders and I think the concensus will be the same.
Now as far as transistors I feel that mosfets will be the way to go in a few years and I really like a mosfet mobile amps I built but you need...
I have used etched, dremeled and ordered boards. The ones used by henry and skywalker are not that expensive.
For keying circuits, bias, filters, such I etch boards with etching solution.
Tubes are fine but not mobile frendly.
Most builders of amps for the 11M band do not use filtering as it would cost a little more and most have radios that put out tremendous amounts of harmonics so it would not be that effective any how.
On a side note I have seen plenty of homebrew ham amplifiers without adequate filtering or...
For starters in my previous post I am refering to using mix 43 for input and output transformer 1/2"x1/2" on input and 1/2"x1-1/4" on output.
No offense but most people dont have the means of powering much over an eight transistor amp much less a 16+. Nor do they have a dummy load capable of...
Look at the schematic Mol posted in the amp section and modify it some.
For Class C groung the input transformer with a 10uH inductor. INput and output windings can be changed for better response from the transistors(aka better matching). Try 3,4,5 wraps on output with a...
