Y’all are doing it all wrong. Sand and coat the antenna in automotive fiberglass resin. Sand it again, apply second coat. Use heat shrink the appropriate size. And lastly, and I can’t believe you guys don’t do this, give the dang antenna a bottle of waterbabies… duh.

For 8v, since at one time there was an issue with guys ruining the factory regulator, wouldn’t building your own be a wise idea? I got a headache from reading this thread and it made me rethink my own 148, think I’ll build a dedicated 8v source.

Short A99, 102” whip, solved problem. Just trim the whip down until you get where you want to be. I replaced the end section of my A99 with a trimmed down 102 and it works perfect.
