This is why I stick with vintage stuff. Tubes are king. But also a clean Grant XL, 148, FT101E, etc. I have played with newer Chinese stuff and it's always moved along within days.

I did the same thing. But now I have 2 stock mics because that mod is horrible. If nobody on the receiving end has told you that you sound bad then you are not talking to the right people.

I agree that tubes are the shizzy. But, The 101 is a solid state radio as far as audio. The only thing tube in that radio is the final output.

Will also consider clean Kenwood TS-830S or Late model Yaesu FT-101E or F series.
