that's what matters in the long run . but some folks like splitting hairs . some folks like the challenge of negating losses and improving their odds and having that warm fuzzy feeling that their shit is right ! but all antennas have losses and all installs and locations are different . a great...
thought about getting the ticket and a used ham rig , just wanna freeband a little an don't want so many freq. to go to where i might get myself in trouble . yeticom says they have the M1 in stock , or is their sight not kept updated ? thanks for the offer BBB but i want something new and i have...
went to yeticom . i'm really liking the magnum 1's easy to read informative display . the optima mk3 has the smaller 257ish display . anyone have any idea how the modulation and receive compare to each other ? is the M1 modulation near the level of their S9 ? do the M1 and mk3 have build quality...
i'll look into them . the 257 style actually didn't appeal to me much , but seemed functional ,but it was constantly said it was stable and had solid modulation and for only $250ish seemed safe . the 2050dx seems to still have issues .
thanks B
i recall the 257 series being stable decent radios . are they still made ? don't see them for sale new anywhere ...... if they're not , whats a decent budget SSB 10 meter/CB radio ? don't need high power , will put a simple 2 pill behind it .
thanks
when i said "feedpoint/tuning" ..... tuning meant a matching network . BTW a starduster can be tuned a bit by adjusting the length of it's vertical and ground elements just like clipping the wire length on a dipole .
a horizontal dipole is a 1/2 wave . make it for CB'ers by dividing the ground elements a bit , make it vertical and it's a 1/4 wave ground plane . move the feedpoint/tuning to the bottom and it's a 1/2 wave vertical , add length to the top it can be a 5/8 or .64 . don't forget your ground...
there is always loss , minimizing it is the game . splitting hairs can be fun for one and frustrating for another . BTW , most antennas will be 50 ohms at some frequency , but it may not be at the frequency needed .
is there any body worth a hoot in central Va ? i got a uniden grant XL i want given a good checkup and don't want any golden clipper near it . i'd rather not send it off , but if it's highly recommended ........
the 108 inch whip might be technically electrically better .... but real world use differences ????? as other said , the ground side will make the bigger difference .
