W5LZ Ive done quite a few of the "swing mods" on many of the various models of the cobra 29s .The 29 ltds that were made by Uniden were far superior to the 29 ltds that are now made by Maxon. The Uniden made radios had thicker foil on the boards and better quality semiconductors on the boards...
The 2314 actually seems to work better in the 29 ltds than the 1957 does from my personal "peak & tweak" experiences with the cobra 29 ltds. It really helps the newer maxon chassis versions of this radio where the standard swing mods burn out the original final and driver in short notice...
Walsh, I will agree that the +3 is a superior mike as it has a speech compression circuit instead of just an amplifier.
I was only answering the question as asked about the +2.
And as always those were just my opinions.

The info I have is Rv2 and d403 are the moduation adjustments. If I remember right you can spread the coil that is right after the final to get a little more out of it.But not much more.

In my opinion what made these mikes so good was the mic elements used in them and the overall quality in the construction. They have nice heavy diecast bases that can take a lot of abuse and very good contacts inside them.
One thing to watch out for on these mikes is the little plastic tray...
The pll in this radio is a upd861 and the TX tuning points are L2,L5 and T14. You can get the owners manual and the service manual fromwww.kenselectronics.com.The phone number is (616) 345-4609.

The wiring for the Ca-72 is 1 Audio=Red 2 Ground=Sheild 3Receive=Blue 4Common=Black 5Transmit=White.The Ca-72 is a compression desk mike for SSB cbs. If you change C-1 and C-2 to .01 ufd it will make the sound sharp instead of bassy and if you jump r-11 it will increase the output level...
Dont know for sure as you didnt give the mic # but it probably goes as such Yellow=Audio Red=Tx Black=Rx Sheild=Ground. The audio lead is always wrapped in the sheild. Hope this helps......

Got to agree with papa smerf the rat shack meter aint so bad for the money.I have had one for a few years and its stood up to the mobile real well.

Sounds to me that the coax was sucking water through capillary action. At highway speeds in the rain, water can get forced in. Even a small pin hole sized crack in the coax can cause the braid to start sucking water and once it starts it acts like a sponge taking on more water and moisture over...
Jeffs advice is right on the money.Listen in for a while and see what others are saying. But be careful once you get the hang of it, it can be VERY addictive.
And the time will probably happen where an agitator will try to get you riled up don't let em get you too upset as that is what they feed...
I have a Turner 2+2 and a Super sidekick desk Mic and they both work like a dream.Sound good on my old Cobras.

Buttfuzz, Im surprised that young fellow wasnt blacking out your TV with all of that splatter.Know what you mean about guys not wanting help.Although lately I fixed a locals radio for him (cobra29) that was bleeding over all 40 channels and had a "supermod" done by the local radio "guru".This...
The Electret mikes on these kinda suck plus theres no SSB and the new ones are surface mount components. But the older models with a 1969 final installed can really scream. These are pretty tough radios as are most of unidens products.
