Is it normal to run 14.9v DC in? I guess that may explain the high watts?
If there are only two finals and probably irf520 they might be getting a tad stressed at those power levels....
The back of the radio resembles the Cree 8900 but the stryker does not have the CW option enabled...
pots...
nnnnnooo
Inside the mic. if you have an early 6 pin plug optima it may have a pot in the mic case. Just like magnum delta force, S-45 and 257 etc.
If it is 8 pin socket then it will not have the adjustable pot in the mic.

Optima
The minimum amp to use with this radio is the DX500. Despite turning things down before too long the ts 350 will fry....which is a shame because they are great little amps. Keep it for a single final radio not the twin final types.
Optima Mk1
You may find the mic has a pot inside of it. Play with that first. All pots inside the radio are marked on the board. Take a photo first so you can return things to status quo if you twist the wrong thing!
quite often... if something is too good to be true .....

Does the clarifier function act the same as the others in that it remembers how far off you were when you changed channels and comes back to the remembered frequency. That got to bothering me after a while....
coax dipole
Very similar indeed but this one has the braid folded back which makes it a center fed dipole. The one I saw the braid was cut at the center point and just the radiator exposed. I would also have thought that folding the braid back was the way to go too...
Does anybody still remember that design of a half wave end fed antenna for 11m that came out in the 70's or earlier? Made from a piece of RG58 coax cable one length no joins from the radio to the tip. Strip off the plastic shield and braid for 8'6" or so and make a choke of 3-5 turns (forget) on...
It is certainly a much prettier radio than the others of the same ilk and shouldn't cost an arm and a leg either. I wouldn't mind one in the car either...
I thought the purple looked really cool....
terminals
No games, old stock. Not the dealer but the distributor that is getting them in like this to comply with FCC.
You guys live in a police state over there!
more power
Here is what you do. Stick/glue/bolt a kl203 to the top of the radio (with a fan, drive the fan off the optima fan leads) and turn the radio down to 20w max. Easy 120-150 watts for you at a good price.
rx75 on the optima
Hi Rob,
it could be done but the PA stage on the Optima is quite a bit different to the 257 so it would not be a simple bolt on option. But if we added a suitable cooling option it might be viable. had not considered going down that route....
bumping up the power
We have looked at it but there is only a limited amount of area to work with as this is a small format radio. What are the real advantages of going from 45-50w to closer to 100W?. There is not a lot of room in the optima and the small size is a big advantage in todays...
