Optima Mk2 (2012 delivery)
The first off the line will be shipped Tuesday next week so the guys on the west coast will have them before the end of the week.
Bad batch
Lets get some serial numbers of the bad 257HP and S-45HP so we can steer clear of them in the future. THose serial numbers that are OK and those that are bad.....
I have found that anything with a RX75 on it that does not have a fan to keep it cool will eventually croak and die. They...
video review!
Jeff, I have enough trouble taking photos!
Will be going down to see Mike next week in Kiwiland so may get together with him and try to make a video but the one that cb Mag did was really good. Maybe he could buy another one and do it again! It is a lot more more work than what...
Optima Mk2 (2012 delivery)
The first of the OPTIMA Testers has arrived in NZ and Mike has been putting it through it's paces. (UPS got it there in 2 days!! Go UPS.) Not much to see from the front panel to distinguish the 2012 Mk2 model from the previous versions. Need to look closely at the...
S-9 series
Well you won't have to worry about that for much longer. They are going to have to change to SMD and a much better sounding and stable radio before the year is out. Nobody want's to build them with discreet components anymore.
Anytone have thrown down the gauntlet!
Got it sorted and moved to com 2 but the 27mhz er marine band is still locked out! Do we need the file from the manufacturer now?
Everything under 24mhz is open.
12w on 27 would be just fine...
K3 Mars Software
I tried the software but it only allows the comport to use ports 1-10.
Unfortunately my com port is com 18!
A windows problem! using Win 7 64bit and have forgotton how to change the com ports for devices. Device manger not giving me any opportunities.
Any advice?
Dave
BTW
BTW the S-9 was also made in the same factory that makes the optima.
I believe the reason that it may be discontinued is due to the high cost of producing circuits with discrete components. Like it or not the economics are leading us down the road of SMD. SMD should mean a cheaper and more...
Optima
Just to clarify:
The Optima may look similar from the outside but it is :
A Not made by the same company or country.
B Not using the same processor
C Not using the same PA stage
D Not using the same circuit board
E Has two IRF520 in the final with a fan.
F Has 5khz steps...
SSB Stryker
It doesn't look like it has come from the same factory.
I think they would have tried the meter and lighting in one of the AM/FM sets first, before they ported it over to a new model. Enough trouble sorting out the bugs in a new radio without having a bunch of other new stuff to...
Stryker SSB Radio
Are you sure about that Ed?
The AM/FM strykers possibly, but I don't know about this one.
Maybe that's why we are still waiting for our run of Optima's!!!!!
257hp
Thats a shame but it does seem things have been a bit hit and miss at the magnum factory where those radios are built. We got a batch of S-45's that were total rubbish but the next batch of S45 HP's were great. Brilliant in fact.
Is a Magnum 257 6 pin electret mic a direct fit for the ss4900?
Have heard if you get things wrong with the mic on the 4900 it does irreparable damage to the radio.
Radio receives but is 2khz off frequency on USB!
Looks nice though and board is clean.
