Thanks for the reply. I'll use the ceramic then.. they're much cheaper.
I wasn't sure how close to the 68pf it needed to be and if different capacitor value/type would change the impedance enough to affect the counter
Update: For the record 82pf ceramic cap worked just fine. Counter now works...
I'm getting ready to attach a FC390 counter to a Cobra 148GTL I've been working on. The jumper mods have already been performed and it is ready to be hardwired to the 148 circuit board.
I looked through my parts bin and do not have a 68pf ceramic cap to use on the VCO connection.

Here's a good portable antenna mast.
I've been thinking about ordering a couple sets of these for field day use.

I built mine in straight vertical. You can also change it up just a bit and only use one section of tubing, and cut 4 108" lengths of wire. Attach the wires together and tie them so they slope downwards at a 45 degree angle. Attach the shield to the wire connection.
The result will be a 1/4...
I have a nice Astatic Silver Eagle D104 microphone for sale. It has the UG9 base and a 6 wire cord. It is currently wired 4 pin cobra/galaxy/uniden
It is in pretty good shape. It could probably use a nice polishing, but it's not pitted and dented up.
The amplifier board is working 100%...
I'd check Ebay or flea markets and try to come up with a used Cobra 25 or Uniden 66/68. They're going to perform better than the ones you originally mentioned.
If I had to choose from that list, however, I'd probably go with the Cobra 19. The older Uniden 510s were great, but the newer ones...
The easiest way to do it is to separate out the last 3 or so inches of your coax into shield and center connector.
Then you can crimp on a small ring terminal and use a sheet metal screw or a bolt to connect the coax to the tubing.
Put the center lead to the piece of tubing on the top...
I mentioned the tubing because it's easier to align vertically and the original poster had been worried that the wire would get tangled in the trees during strong winds.
