if you had the choice between only these two amps.
Which one would you choose and why?
And which would give you full legal limit on all AM, SSB, CW ect without breaking an effort?
Ameritron AL-82
Or
Ameritron AL-1200
I have yet to see color other than white on bottom lite up no red/ or orange like coloring. But I get @500 to 700 watts out ssb sometimes gets on CW to to up 800 dead key on it. But that between 50 to 70 watts drive.
Am 25 watt drive @200-300 dead key. Swings to @600-800
Ok, amp gets @5-7 on AUX, on ssb as well as AM, but tube never gets red, that sound right?
Now on radio swr meter does go backwards but the Mfj-989D does forward.
Okay what settings on a TS-480HX 28 and 29 1 2 or 3? Set which to which for the amp, and still cannot get it to do CW 800 5-6 at 50-70 watt drive, should the rear adjustment pod be adjusted? Also still may need coax cable change out have 3 one from radio to 989D and from 989D to AL-80B, also...
Now when setting ALC is it same scale aka bottom as HV is or is it too scale that goes to 500? Meters are weird I set it to the 15 on bottom that is same scale used for the HV, and the top is SOLEY reflective measurements, Am I right or way off?
No not all max out their things, that's stupid to Do, yeah power is a lot but modulation I think and from what I been taught LONG ago is better with a good signal.
Should it be at 150 grid and 400 plate or can I go higher for am ssb CW what's the max for these to go and MAX drive for this amp sounds like in manual 100 watts drive then some say 80 some 70 which is which???
Most who have chimed up here with exception of one or two are v b b knowledgable and...
I'm using CW at 50 on 11 to tune it, like you though Ameritron recommends no to exceed 200 watt carrier on AM I'd go like you @125-150 rather have good swing and not over modulating on it.
I did make a local contact this morning on ssb amp on S7-9 amp off S2. And as you see in last 3 pics...
here are some pics. What The readings and settings are and the input from exciter is 50 watts. Any suggestions? Or is this right on? the other thing is sometimes the Grid reading goes far left and has no reading at all but plate does. And swr,s on radio go up too 2:1 and 3:1 but not on the tuner...
How much differnce locally.
As far as dx I have an IMAX 2000 on a 8" corner 5' fence post and worked well then again my property was 1060' above seas level too lol
Kinda, I made it myself as a teen thinking why not, it should work and did well and the roof was a rock roof too and outside in vehicle got s7 to s9 noise levels inside using them s5 to just under s7 so not too bad of loss and when listening the the station in Caracas inside got @s9 and outside...
