My antenna is 350' from my house and the coax is disconnect when not in use. Once or twice a year we actual get a thunderstorm here.
But my amps and radios are bonded together to an earth ground anyway. But that's more my fear of 240 and 4800 volts.
A clean 150% will sound gooder then a clean 200%. However they both will have some noticeable distortion on cheap receivers. That's why the commercial stations run 120% max.
I run around 160% PEAK for non channel 6 tawhk'n.
The further you put the coax from the driven element the better.
Personally I've had many more "construction" issues running vertical as opposed to horizontal. The wind kicks the crap out of vertical beams.
My non scientific results are it takes more power to get the same results. ( running...

Don't think it's worth fixing.
Why would any not come to the obvious conclusion? Open it up to what it is actually being used for?? I can't even see how this is even open to debate in 2019. Just be glad people stop starring on the phone for 2 seconda and grab a mic..ohh sh1t.
Been using my Shockwave a lot lately since we have almost 0 dx..No problems and get out just great. In fact in these weird and changing conditions it works better then a beam.
Plus it will handle 10kw all day long.
We already have FM cb in the states. How many of us actually use 10m repeaters? It's a mess of hetrodynes and multi machines. Useless till you get down to the simplex channels. Then you'll just squashed by a wide band AM rig.
They should open it up to FM, digital. President petitioned the FCC...
