If your 128 pill amp isn't enough........

10K amp draw? You would have to pull a separate industrial-spec generator behind you. Total insanity. But it wouldn't exist if there wasn't a market for it. The saddest thing is that someone will buy and power it, just to sit on channel 6 and jibber jabber that they just got down.

    thoughts on this amp kit...?

Might be fun if you like building kits, but for not much more you can buy an already-assembled amp that doesn't ship from Ukraine. I'd be concerned about obtaining missing or replacement parts.

    My mobile setup

It's not crud in the mic- it's a natural windscreen! Nice setup!

    Dead Carrier on 19

Found out what it was- one of our locals accidentally locked down the mic on his 2950 and left the house. Turned out to be a pretty good real-world test for the 2950- capable of throwing a dead carrier at half- power for more than 8 hours and not suffer any damage.

    Dead Carrier on 19

Been going all day. 20 over 9 signal strength in NW Arizona. Anyone else getting it?

Ch 6 user is bleeding over EVERYWHERE

This has been asked before but here it is again: How do these obvious mental midgets manage to accumulate the funds necessary to build a station capable of wreaking this kind of havoc?

    17jb6?

There are tube manufacturers overseas but AFAIK they don't do sweep tubes except for the EL509. How nice it would be if someone would manufacture 8950s, 6LQ6s, 8417s and related tubes- How many old Palomars, Siltronix, Swan, and Wawasee amps that have been languishing could be brought back to life?

    REPLACING 6LF6'S

You can mix them but I try not to. Some tubes are more robust than others. While they may be electrically identical different tubes makers had different construction techniques. Different brands of tubes can be physically different- be taller, or wider than others. This can be a concern if...

    TUBE STRAINTH VS. PERFORMANCE

The rated quality of a tube is only one factor in whether or not the thing is any good. If it's gassy, has a short or has grid emissions it may still light up and test well but not be worth keeping. Example: Recently I saw a little ripple on the scope while running my Phantom. I pulled and...

    TRAM D201a ON SSB?

The channel selector issue is a concern because replacements are no longer available. If you end up with a 201A that has a bad selector it will require some creative engineering to devise a work around. Most everyone who ever had a Tram opened up the VFO for transmit. Doing so took a lot of...

Boomer RX 75----Anybody ever seen one?

Looks to be a clone of the Palomar amps of the era. Probably has MRF-455s in it. Good luck with it. If nothing else you can use it as a learning platform.

Cobra 4 pin to Uniden 5 pin Adapter

AFAIK the adapter is a direct plug-in with no other mod required. I took all of my 5-pin Cobras and Unidens and converted them to a 4-pin jack. The D-104 is a very hot mic- I'd keep the gain near minimum and use the mic gain control on the radio for adjustment.

nostalgic radio i found in a box at my shop today with 2 channel selector knobs

The Palomar rig was basically the prototype for the CPI 300. IIRC the engineers from Swan and Palomar split off to form CPI. It was a hell of a radio!

nostalgic radio i found in a box at my shop today with 2 channel selector knobs

I think that this was an early attempt at a radio that could monitor one frequency while transmitting on another. Interesting concept but not a real big seller.

23 channel vintage radio - where would a frequency counter hook up?

I know the feeling. I've put my D201A into semi-retirement and have put the old Cobra 135 and model 90 back into daily use. I do enjoy using the vintage gear!

23 channel vintage radio - where would a frequency counter hook up?

Since you have the model 90 VFO, look around for a Siltronix FC -1 frequency display. It can be hooked up either inline via coax connectors, or can pick up the signal off the air through a small antenna in the back of the unit. Strictly speaking it is NOT a frequency counter, only a display...

    D&A Warrior 1000 / new 10k

Have done all of that and there is no change. This amplifier was only rated for 1375 watts input. Assuming 50% efficiency it should do about 550-600 w resting carrier - which it does. Maximum output is about 700w. I can get more out of it but then the waveform starts looking like a square...

Need Circuit For Simple Jammer "Bush Boogie"

Not exactly a legal remedy and it does involve a fair amount of risk, but in the old days we would just pin or maybe cut the offender's coax. In extreme cases some were known to fire a grappling hook around the offender's antenna - hooking the other end up to a vehicle and make a quick...

    wilson 1000 magnet mount

Did you have to trim the whip at all? I ask because I have a magnet mount 1000 that just won't go below about 1.6:1 no matter how the whip is positioned. Top, bottom, middle it just won't drop the SWR. Coax and connector is fine and there is nothing visibly wrong with the loading coil...

    D&A Warrior 1000 / new 10k

A bit of clarification: The source radio remains the same: A Barkett restored and tuned Tram D201A. The meters used remain the same: Either a Palomar model 500, a Kicker 500 TS or a Wawasee meter (don't know the number). When this radio and meters are used with any of my other amplifiers...
