    Galaxy DX-959 Mosfet version mods

I have isolated the AM regulator and fed that with 20+ volts to some mosfets! Wonder if thats what 9C1 is talking about?

    Galaxy DX-959 Mosfet version mods

Do you even know what your talking about? On AM there is only 6 volts going to the final, on SSB there is 12 volts. When your volt the final your just giving it 12 volts on AM as it would run on SSB. How is that bad? Is 12 volts to much for a 1969?

    Galaxy DX-959 Mosfet version mods

On SSB 12 volt goes through the AM regulator to power the driver and final. On AM only 6 (ish) volts goes to the driver and final. You move the final to a 12 volt source you get more power on AM and since the current to power the final is not going through the AM regulator the AM regulator...

    Loop Fed Yagi

Yep I'm currently building a LFA, a friend of mine ordered a 5 element 11 meter LFA seems like a good design. The only problem is common mode current so a 1:1 balun is needed.

    Galaxy DX-959 Mosfet version mods

You dont need to replace the AM regulator if you "volt" the final. That will give you more power on AM and make the radio run cooler on SSB

    mosfet radio question

Mosfet radios are the same beside a few changes in the RF amp, the NPC mods will work better on a mosfet radio.

Best 2 Meter Mag mount that can be tuned to MURS?

I use a 5/8 wave stainless marine VHF antenna made by Shakespeare for MURS, The SWR is pretty flat on the MURS frequency. I had to make my own mount for the antenna, there made to work without a ground so I you could figure out how to mount one on a magnet it would probably work pretty good!

    Dark SS whip

You can also bead/media blast the antenna. I would use glass bead for a light gray finish and aluminum oxide for a darker gray. You can pickup a cheap Harbor Freight blaster for cheap. I run around with a Francis Amazer and most people never even notice it.

So i screwed up and bought a dx959 refurb on ebay

I bought a refurbished Galaxy, did some mods like dual mosfets and it has been getting abused in my pickup for the last 5 years now. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another refurbished radio!

    galaxy 959

If you want extra channels and SSB, A CPU controlled PLL like in the Magnum radios and RCI's will give you the best stability on SSB. 2510 or 257 is my vote. Your money ahead just buying a radio with all the options you want instead of paying someone to modify something.

    160 Meter Loop?

So last year I started installing a 160m loop about 50 feet off the ground. Since I dont have my license for the amateur bands yet, I was wanting the loop to be somewhat resonate on 11meters. I marked my wire at specific points so I could tap different points to change the length of the wire...

    Has anyone tried this mod?

On AM your final does not get 13.8 volts its regulated down. On SSB you final get the full 13.8 volts. Yes by volting the final you leave the high level modulation to just the driver and it turns the final into a amplifier. Radio manufactures do this to limit the power on AM while still having a...

    Swing Kit Pro's & Con's

Dont install a swing kit in your 148, Other radios like a Galaxy, Connex ect take to swing kits better than the 148/Grants. A 148 is a really good radio that does not need a swing kit to be a good performer. I agree with Robb do a variable power mod or just pop the top and adjust VR10, lower the...

    Has anyone tried this mod?

You can save some money and just "volt" the finals. It will give you have few more watts on AM and draw less current through the regulator. That will make your radio run cooler/stable and making your SSB happy.

Which one of my CB radios should I mod for HiFi TX and RX ?

I never did HiFi on a 2510. I know the Galaxy is easier to do than the 148. But I think the 148 sounds better in the end.
