Amazing. RF is an alternating current (AC) feeding the negative and postive sections of an antenna. A dipole is the perfect balanced receptor for a balanced AC waveform. However, an antenna without a radial section is declared the cats meow, while a perfectly balanced dipole is "foo pawed"...

Ok - have that - but what kind of antenna is an IMAX? A shunt fed dipole? A zep, a J-pole?

Doc, That is so true, but many don't get that. I bet that dipole will be a better antenna than a a99, Imax ect just because of it's design. The rf has two equal lengths to push against. I have read and read and read about the no radial "stick" antennas, and just can't visualize in my mind...

Well, I just like balanced antennas. Don't care for "magic coils" and radials. My no gain wire dipoles have served me well in inverted V and horizontal configurations. But, it is hard to get a piece of wire to stand on it's end for vertical polarization. Enter the Sirio D 27. :)

[Lazybones1222, this and any other single element antenna really needs to be in the clear and away from stuff, conductive or not. FWIW - if you read my post - I found that pic on the internet, it is not a pic of my installation. I don't even have the antenna yet, it IS in on the way though.
