    Kenwood TS-480 HF Models questions?

An HX for the car/truck? I am jealous. Good for you. They are so easy to use and have great audio. I get great unsolicited reports often.

    Kenwood TS-480 HF Models questions?

I screwed mine right to the desk. If you don't want to commit - VELCRO.

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

I had a pot roast with carrots, onions, potatoes and mushrooms all about. It was fantastic. Now I have gas. Come on people, all this fuss over a dipole? The vast majority of people I talk to are on dipoles. How can you not love a dipole, they are so cute. And look at the pattern when you...

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

Just trying to get along and play well with others dave.....just trying to get along. (secretly I think antennas that violate certain principles are garbage - but don't quote me on that) BTW - The driven element of a beam is - is - is.....ok I'm gunna say it, A DIPOLE!! Add a...

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

Just poking fun Robb, no harm intended. I had an a99 and talked all over with that also. Just don't understand really how they work, but they do, I'll give you that.

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

Amazing. RF is an alternating current (AC) feeding the negative and postive sections of an antenna. A dipole is the perfect balanced receptor for a balanced AC waveform. However, an antenna without a radial section is declared the cats meow, while a perfectly balanced dipole is "foo pawed"...

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

Here is one for you Robb, thought it appropriate. :) from : Antenna Myths The DX Myth No doubt, the single, most often used reference (past the point of triteness) is the number of DX stations said antenna installation garnered. How or why this practice got started is an unsolvable...

    Now that is funny.

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

haha - That is funny, and this thread is too. Check this out from: End-fed Vertical and J-pole You need to go there to see the pics. Seems the modeling software no likey the Imax. I-Max 2000 Solarcon A-99 Antenna The following model is an I-Max 2000 5/8th wave vertical with a...

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

Ok - have that - but what kind of antenna is an IMAX? A shunt fed dipole? A zep, a J-pole?

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

Are you pulling my leg? Is the IMax a shunt fed dipole?

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

Ok, help me understand then. How does a piece of fiberglass with a loading coil and a piece of wire with no radials get gain? What does the rf ac wave push against (in slang terms)? I am not trying to be a wise a$$, but I have read the arguments on the stick antennas and I just don't get...

    Tree Signal Attenuation

Well we operate our radios despite things we can't control. Like my neighbors big a$$ oak tree. There it is. Can't cut it down. Life goes on.

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

Doc, That is so true, but many don't get that. I bet that dipole will be a better antenna than a a99, Imax ect just because of it's design. The rf has two equal lengths to push against. I have read and read and read about the no radial "stick" antennas, and just can't visualize in my mind...

A Dipole for your CB Base Station?

Very gracious response. Beetle means well. I have a wanna be elmer that lives by me that says if you don't build it you ain't a real ham. Of course he is retired and has all day to build stuff. Me? I don't always have the time to get on the radio let alone build stuff all the time. I did...

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

Well, I just like balanced antennas. Don't care for "magic coils" and radials. My no gain wire dipoles have served me well in inverted V and horizontal configurations. But, it is hard to get a piece of wire to stand on it's end for vertical polarization. Enter the Sirio D 27. :)

    SIRIO SD-27 Dipole

[Lazybones1222, this and any other single element antenna really needs to be in the clear and away from stuff, conductive or not. FWIW - if you read my post - I found that pic on the internet, it is not a pic of my installation. I don't even have the antenna yet, it IS in on the way though.
