Im still messing around with my new DX-959b and I checked the VCO circuit and it was set at 10.245. Is that off far enough to cause a problem with the PLL? I dialed it back to 10.240 just in case.

I wont need anything like that for quite a while. I am just starting to learn the basics. If they replace any bad parts like electrolytics and recalibrate it at that lab, that will be more than I need. This was a pretty decent counter back in the day.

Was just in my local T/A and noticed a new Astatic 636L on the shelf. This model is a normal 636L, but it has a new matte black rubberized coating on it. First one I have seen.

This one came from obrianwholesale. It has an LSU Property tag on it. Im guessing it was from a surplus auction. It must be fairly old as it also has a Fluke calibration tag on it from 1981 LOL

I just scored a really nice Fluke 1920A 500mhz freq counter on Ebay. Got it for $70 and free shipping. It seems to be in really nice shape and clean. I`m sending it to a repair shop to have it gone over and calibrated.

Well i set the bias down to 3.9v on both. Then I reset the dead key to 4w (it dropped down a bit). Then I peaked the amp stages again in order, on USB with ALC turned all the way up. That brought sideband PEP up to about 18w and am PEP to about 23w again. Then I reset the AMC pot and now it...

I am feeding 13.8v from a 40a power supply. SSB alc is set for 12w PEP. I really wish these companies would update their manuals when they make changes or make new models. There seems to be a lot of confusion out here about final bias settings, depending on if you have the old finals or new...

Also, SSB APC is set to 12.5v.

They are very nice radios, but they are complicated and have very tiny, surface mount devices and traces on the circuit board. The average snip-n-clip knob should NEVER be allowed to work on these radios...
