Thats the one i was looking at. By the looks of it I should have tried that one. The only reason why I didn't choose that was because it was only available on NewEgg I believe and I kept checking Carl's on Facebook and he's building stuff and many people saying how great he is. that being said I...
Yeah I should have went mosfet they have them, just wasn't any builders out there I would go to for one except RM Italy but I gave Carl a try because of all the good reviews and his honoring his work, as told by him in a few places. Like I said, we will see. It could have just been something...
Yeah, I'm not even sure Carl is building them as I talked to a guy who says him and a couple of other people build and repair them from what I understood. He has tons of great reviews and has been around a long time. I am no tech and not sure what happened but I do know my setup isn't the...
Just running a Galaxy 979 stock radio doing about 5 watts swings to 20ish. If you see the video, the swr is low. Below 1.5 after amp and it's exactly the same at the radio. I painstakingly tuned them perfectly, with all three of my antennas. After it happened the swr was higher at the radio and...
Thanks, and will do. Yeah not sure but I do know SWR is/was low at radio and amp, as I have read and asked about where the meter should be for tuning. I have one in the radio and one after the amp. The SWR went up slightly when I turned on the amp after the issue and wattage dropped down as per...
He did mention that and thats all I can see thats burnt out and I can see most the stuff around the transistors. What might be the reason for that, any clue?
Thank you. Thats what I think as well, faulty amp, but I am no tech by far. I mentioned when i switched the SSB switch it would make a noise sometimes through my radios speaker. He wasn'tpositive that was a warning sign but did not exclude it. SWR was/ is low at radio and after amp. Ran it with...
I have a Carl Built 400HD(4 2879 hg's) with bias. I run a Galaxy 979 stock radio with it with low swr throughout. One day I checked swr at the amp and noticed I was only getting about 10 watts swinging to 40 out the amp. I looked in through the vents because it has a warranty strip and can't...
Running my CB400HD(4XHG2879s) with my 979 now. Radio does about 20 watts pep max. I'm running it at around 3/4 power. I'm happy. Great reports and sounds crystal clear. Bought the 400 but was looking for an 8"pill" but new to the custom built amp so wanted to see how it goes first with something...
Was going for the 1600 myself but the new ones have the DEIs and also I thought the same thing of having to upgrade some stuff, again, and not into it so looked for something like the TS500DX cause they have DEIs in the new ones as well and I have seen tests with them and wouldn't use them. I'll...
Using the 979 now. I know, right. Again I understand people have overdriven these as per the 2879 specs claiming over 200 watts pep each, but then again I have seen videos of people running that high in tests and they all eventually blow out. Granted again not sure how long that would take in...
All good, don't understand this side of it. I do know the guy said 5 watts minimum when I messaged him, and his videos for these he drove it with 40 watts and with 200 watts pep. Again I understand these transistors can take more than typical datasheet specs but I also see them blown run at...
I agree! I have read his builds are really good and saw from a video review of one of his amps on a scope was reviewed as very good. That being said, he didn't rtest it like Carl did. LOL
Yes but wouldn't 2879s be the same as far as typical input drive no matter the name? I understand one can take more than the other from what I have seen but I believe normal drive is the same, no. Right now Im running a Galaxy DX979 with it and have a 6666 as well. My old DX500 had Toshibas in it.
So I am going to run these like I normally do when I had my TS500DX which was about 25 watts PEP max in, for a 4X HG2879 HD amp I bought. Still not understanding or I do and it really means nothing when they say High Drive. Thanks everyone. Here is an interesting video from BBI about HGs...
I just want to add and I know this is not technical but makes a difference to me. I am noticing when testing the two antennas in troubling areas like buildings, woods, places with high obstructions around me, the Skipshooter is doing up to 1 S unit better both ways than the Predator when tested...
Is the input power data the same with HG2879 as the Toshiba 2879s? I am finding datasheets on the HGs but the aren't giving the max pep inputs like the 2879 does, or any input power info that I can see. Thanks in advance.
