I assembled mine but have not tested it yet. It is like 105 degrees out today and got worn down. I made it 19 feet over all length like the directions so it may be about 10" short of VA3ES mesurment. Do not over tighten the radial hose clamps or they will strip. I replace all 4 with bigger...
Well at 28mhz that is close to 19 feet, just a tad longer. Maybe I will try that first. Checking it at just a few feet above the ground before mounting is not the best way especially in my case. My house and garage are pretty close and I will be between the two. I don't want to get far back from...
I am not sure 19 feet is good for ten meters. I know they are covering there butt and not saying anything about 11 meters. 19 feet may work for the top of 10 meters 29.5 mhz but with out trying it who knows. I am going to shoot for 28 mhz and will try something longer than 19.
I talked to them on the phone just a few minutes ago and they could not tell me were they came up with 19 feet. He said he thought it was for the 10 meter phone area of the band at 28.3 to 28.5 but was not for sure. I mentioned that the old cb antenna was almost 23 feet in length and he got...
I would not use a mag mount when running power, it may work ok but I would rather have a antenna mounted and an extra ground wire to the frame to make sure I have a good ground..
The directions say 19 feet over all but I am not sure what frequency that is resonant for. They should have more info with the directions on what length is needed for different frequencies.
Anyone get the sp500 up and tuned for the band you will be using it on? I have mine and will be putting it up soon and wanted some feedback on what length you ended up with. I am wanting to run 10 meters and hope it will work on 11 some what.
Just scored a Tram ssb diamond 60. What a sweet vintage radio. I had never heard of Tram but they made a nice well made rig. Anyone have or use these old radios?
I just ordered one today and the guy said they are making some more starting on the 5th. Can't wait to get mine to see how it works. He thought he saw a couple in the warehouse but could not be sure. How high should the radials be from the roof or other objects. I may need another length on my mast.
I think I did lower the dk to about 3 watts but then you get maybe 80 or so watts out, no negative swing but still no forward swing. I am thinking still the meter is wack.
I lowered the the output to about 5 watts and it still swings a little backwards. That makes me think the meter may be questionable. I was seeing about 175 out on high with that setting. It did lower the amps output a small amount. Is the PEP on the radio shack meter not going to show a forward...
I am also thinking my radio shack meter is suspect. I have another post asking about swing because I never see a forward swing on am with the meter in the pep position on any of my radios. I did see a backswing however like this post is about. I have had it since the 80's. After looking again...
