I guess I do not understand this swing thing. I have about 5 radios and 2 or Icom hf radios. I rarely use am but see all this swing buisness. When I key any of my radios on am with the watt meter set to pep I see no meter movement just a steady meter reading. I have tried the watt meter on...
Each transistor has a max input of 10 watts I think so I figured 7 or 8 would be fine, less than 5 for each. On ssb I have about 15 watts for the drive. Is that two much for ssb?
I run the 2510 on a Pyramid 21 amp power supply and it never seems to draw more than about 5 amps. The amp is a Cobra xl350 with 2 2879's and I run it with a 35 amp switching supply. The radio does it a little with the amp off also, I can see the watt meter drop off maybe a watt without the amp...
I was setting up my 2510 with my 2 transistor amp and lowered the am output down to about 7 or 8 watts on my watt meter. I noticed when your doing the old audioooo test etc the watt meter drops a little with the amp on or off. Of course it is more noticable with the amp on and you can see a...
I was checking my swr's today on my antenna and usually it is really flat in the 11 meter band and only up to about 1.5 in the 10 meter 28 mhhz area. It was real windy today and the swr readings were better in the 10 meter band and higher at 27mhhz, up to about 1.6 on channel 19. Later they went...
I bought it new and the only mod is the frequency expansion mod. I am going to look at the caps in the mic and see how they look. I did try it turning on the mic attenuator and it was maybe better.
Yea it does seem to be really touchy. I have been turning it down till the ssb output shows next to nothing and then turn it up till I just starting getting full output
I have been trying to use a turner +3b with my 2510 and most contacts say the audio is not right. I have it turned way down about 8 or 9 o-clock on the tone setting. I have gone back to my stock mic and get better reports. I wonder if some of the electrolytic caps may be going bad in the turner...
Magnum 250 by Palomar. This is a nice little ab class lo drive amp with 2 454 transistors. 160 watts am with about 5 or 6 watts drive, 225 ssb with 12 to 15 watts drive. Nice clean power. Looks alot like the cobra xl series amps. Will try to add a picture later. $95 plus 10 for shipping paypal...
Yea it looks pretty close to that amp. It may have a few less components that that one. I will try to get a picture of it and see if I can figure out how to load them.
Well I turned my 2510 down to about 12 to 15 watts PEP on ssb and the amp seems to like that. On low I was seeing about 150 watts and medium was 180 and high almost 200. Not much difference between medium and high. Not sure what that meens but that should be a safe way to go. With the 2510...
Thanks for the input. I will probably just run the amp om the medium setting. That seems to give about 50 watts more than the low setting. I will also turn down my 2510 a little to about 10 to 15 watts PEP. I got concerned when the 20 amp fuse blew on the supply line. I also have a 2 transistor...
