    2SC2879 vs. 2SC3240

Aren't the MA/COM 454's the exact same as the original MRF454? I never dug into it, but have replaced pairs of bad Motorola MRF454's with the MA/COM's and they did great, exact drop in replacement. I like transistors that are stable. MRF454's and SD1446's seem to be pretty stable in my...

    2SC2879 vs. 2SC3240

I'd be interested in playing around with them. However, looks like all the 2SC3240's on eBay are from China, so they will all be fakes, if lucky maybe some are just used pulls that still have a little life left in them. But I'd be leery of ANY shipped from China. Question, did MA/COM stop...

    Helping the cb revival along

Every time I try to get someone new interested in CB around here, it turns into me teaching them about building their own antennas, and showing them my Ham station and they get more interested in becoming a ham. It used to be easy to get people into CB around here, we had a lot of old timers on...

Cant find a radio repair person anywhere

Damn he really threw it in the trash? $200 radio. I'd bet a little money it was simply the VCO Voltage... a little twisty and a voltmeter and he would have been in business with a minty '94 148. Where's that trash can located lol?

    chinese made cobra cb radios?

Totally second this. I am old school and don't like the Chinese Cobra's. I love my Grant LT. I drive at night a lot for my job (Pilot Car) and the backlit knobs and all really help. The Grant LT's are built old school, good quality. Maybe a little pricey to find one though. I bought mine...

Humble Electronics Noise Toys Model List? (Yellow casing)

Anyone have a list or link to a list of the various models and what the sounds are? Someone brought me a DX99V with a pair of noise toys in it, not sure what they are, was just wondering. Radio is currently not working, have to go over it, haven't pulled the noise toys to test them yet...

2 matched pairs Non red-dot 2SC2879's what to do?

When I meet up with someone who really wants them I'll bring them in the amps they can test them that way, and then I'll plug my damn Hakko 472B into a power inverter and remove them for them on spot. Not doing eBay. I have NEVER had so many problems with selling stuff on eBay, EXCEPT radio...

    Antique 2 x MRF475 Linear Amplifier

Cool, I see they still selling them. PCB is $14.00, transformers already done are $15.70. The metal can transistor/IC thing they use for the bias circuit is a metal can version of the 723 Regulator? Never seen one LOL.

Yep that's it, slightly newer revision.

2 matched pairs Non red-dot 2SC2879's what to do?

I hear that, and I have never had a problem with the Red Dots either. But there's always THOSE people that think they have to have the most expensive bestest thing available, I just need to find those people, and make a sale, and put that money into some other stuff in the shack, because I have...

    ALC Use

I don't get the popcorn emoji. The tubes in my amp been in there for 5+ years, maybe more like 7-8 years and haven't ever had a problem. If someone is slamming the grid current too hard because they don't know how to load an amp, that's the problem...

    Antique 2 x MRF475 Linear Amplifier

I have an old 2 X board like that, but it's from Maxtronics I think from like 1993, never used it. But it's also got provision for relay, and everything else as well. Who makes the board pictured above? I've seen them used in a lot of Ham projects, but never bothered to remember where they...

    Antique 2 x MRF475 Linear Amplifier

Thanks, yeah the transformers are around here somewhere. If not easy to replace them. For my use, I just need something to bump that 1W output up to about 10-14W PEP for my Softrock RX/TX. I mostly use it for digital mode work. My single MRF455 amp I have been using with it work great 20M...

2 matched pairs Non red-dot 2SC2879's what to do?

Maybe so, but I ain't trying to be logical about it, nor would I pay that much for them (I am not a keydown guy) just whatever the market supports. Would be glad to meet up with someone that wants them in person, bring your own tester if you want, if you like you buy, simple as that, if not...

2 matched pairs Non red-dot 2SC2879's what to do?

RF parts no longer has Non Red Dot 2SC2879's. The Red Dots are $100 each. From what I hear the non Red Dots are worth $200 each to comp box guys that are going to run them to their limits. I need to sell them, for $200 each or maybe a little less for all 4, so I can invest in some of the...

    Antique 2 x MRF475 Linear Amplifier

Also just a note. I am sure it had sil-pads under the MRF475's, so the tab is not grounded, it is hot, is the collector, the board has vias in the screw holes that hold down the MRF475's. The original builder simply cut the center leg off the transistor, and used the tab as the collector.

    Antique 2 x MRF475 Linear Amplifier

Found this in my junk box today. This has been floating around in my junk box since like 1992. I forgot I even had it. I think I originally had the entire casing and heatsink that went with it. Looks like a 2 x MRF475 linear amplifier with thermal tracking (via diode under board see bottom...

    ALC Use

When I got my AL-811H the grid resistors had fallen off from overheating, had tubes blown, all kinds of mess. I replaced those resistors with direct wire to ground, if I remember right about 68 watts of drive power into the amp gets pretty much full output. No need for ALC to amp connection...

Palomar Regulated Bias Schematic Elite 450HD

Thanks for clearing that up Bob, I figured as much. Shame they make stuff, but they don't do it "right". I had no hand in that, only made the schematic from looking at the board/circuit to share it and get opinions on it. One question, would the small 1N4148 diodes be any better to use, or...
