Saw the relays on eBay. Was hoping to use some upgraded parts maybe, better contacts, etc from Mouser, but I have forgotten over the years that this style of relay has been discontinued or something, I'd have to drill the board and re-route some traces to use the newer better relays.
Anyone know what the Omron or one of the other brand of Relays that Mouser carries will replace with right pin spacing etc, the Panasonic/Aromat HB2-DC12V relays?
I tried looking through there, but so far none of them match the pinout. They are 2 Form C, but the pins are like this on the ones...
Added a black/ground wire to that empty hole, and fired it up, and nomadradio you were right it works like that. Red is B+ Missing/Black wire is GND and white is audio output, and green is trigger when grounded AND there is 9VDC present on that Green Wire.
On the scope the Audio output has two...
Thanks for the info, will check it out and update. I think it probably is a Doorbell. Date code says 04 / 1988 so that's really old, doorbell was popular back then.
I gave up for now on that 25LTD Classic China model.
INSTEAD, I found this one in the stack and got it all fixed up. It powered on but nothing worked, not even the display, after replacing the regulator transistors, zener diodes, and some caps and tuning on it, it came back to life. Actually...
Thanks Andy, will try it more with the Ch 9 switch on, but so far no luck. As for voltage on pin 1 of the PLL, checking it with the scope for sudden changes, and a DOM for accuracy, it only changes from 8.09VDC to 8.08VDC when I hit the TX mode.
Will look at all those caps around the PLL closer.
I need to find a Service Manual for this radio with detailed alignment instructions and test point info. I did test/set the VCO on CH 40 to 3.5VDC, and I checked the crystal, it is oscillating around 10.2392 Mhz. I didn't get anything on TP3, (JP14) on the scope while in TX mode, only some fuzz...
You are probably right Andy. Here's some high-res pics different angles, the light in here is a little limited.
I see already it may be missing D2, which I would assume it needs that. I am going to look over the board and the schematic and see if many of the apparently missing parts are...
Swapped the Cobra Branded PLL over. Did NOT get the 4.6VDC on pins 13 and 14, still radio no worky. No TX at all, light changes on front panel from RX to TX when keyed, PA works, but there is nothing being received and not a mW of RF going out on TX.
PA works, sounds strong audio.
In CB Mode, No RX and No TX Audio or RF Output. Bought it missing the PLL chip. I assume it had the branded Cobra 25LTD PLL in it.
I do not have a spare, so I dropped in two different TC9106P (or BP) PLL's. I get 4.6VDC or so on pins 13 and 14. I have...
My newer Grant XL is PB-208AD main board, what is yours? Disregard on where they go on the older Grant XL, that's where they go for sure, but may have totally different circuit board traces than the Newer Grant XL
In my older grant (before the little connectors like in yours) those same wires go:
Black Wire to C75 R92 junction
White wire to Center leg of TR19
On your board there is probably an empty spot for a connector there. I'll take the cover off my newer Grant XL with those connectors and verify.
So... I decided to stay up a while and just fix the damn thing. I ended up using a TIP41C for the AM Regulator, seems to be fine. AM TX came to life. Then replaced the meter light with a green LED to kind of match the rest of the lights. Radio works great, definitely worth the $20 I paid...
I have some TIP-41C 100V 6A BCE HFE min 30
or MJE3055T 70V 10A BCE HFE Min 20 Max 100
or 2N6488G 90V 15A BCE HFE Min 20 Max 150
Looks like any of them would work, the 2N6488G being the strongest current handling wise.
And can I just put it on the side of the PCB near the Audio Chip or should I wire/remote mount it on the back of the Chassis like the newer Grant XL's, and this LT are?
SSB RX and TX work great. Talked to Jamaica on it for a few minutes. Clarifier is unlocked for RX and TX
AM RX works, no TX (light comes on, no output, guessing AM regulator missing might cause that LOL).
The Frequency Expansion is on the Hi/Low and BRT/DIM switches. Depending on the...
10-4 I guess it's for the DSC, the bracket looked factory, but with the wires added in the way they were, I wasn't sure. About to power this thing up and see what all is up with it.
