    HUBS FOR MOONRAKERS

Anymore development on this? I would be very interested in plastic hubs (or metal even) for making quads....! And also, yes, what diameter boom will they fit?

    A99/Max2000 Poll and Discussion

Wow, I cannot believe people actually use DX contacts as a measure of any antenna's performance... conditions people, conditions, they vary every second. Don't be a r-tard and think that your antenna is no good because one day when you talked to Station X he said you were 9-20 and the next...

    Suggestions for first HF antenna

Quad loops are full wavelength and are driven directly, yes. Depending on if you place the feedpoint (where the coax is connected to the wire loop antenna) on the sides of the loop or the top or bottom of the loop it will be vertically or horizontally polarized. If you are going to talk to...

    Suggestions for first HF antenna

I think if you put the dipole near any metal object facing the same direction (in parallel) to the dipole it's going to cause it problems if less than 9 - 18 feet away or something along those lines. Needs to be away from metal objects, as with any antenna. Move it out into the open for...

    Suggestions for first HF antenna

I don't own a tuner, but I would love to have a MFJ analyzer, those are the way to go with any antenna, homebrew or commercially built.... You only need a tuner if you are going to go hoping all around the HF band on a antenna built for just 1 band, the antenna will not necessarily perform...

    Suggestions for first HF antenna

Hmmm.. Anytime I have made a dipole antenna I had to do lots of adjusting the length till I got the SWR down. If you tried it in 11M and it was ok like 1.3:1, but on 10M it was 3+:1 then you need to shorten it till it reads good on 10M if you are going to be using it on 10M. I like the idea...

Xfmrless Tube amp, can it be made safe?

That's an old friend of mine's amp in the pics, I never did do anything with it, just gave it back to him the other day, it was chilling in storage along with the rest of my radio gear, even my ham gear... Took it down last spring to make room in my shop for more regular work and was so busy...

    Palomar 450HD Fet

Fixed. And yes, mosfets designed for switching do not work for RF amplifiers very well. Mosfet "pills" however work fine, they are designed to do the job of "gain" rather than "switching". You get my PM TF?

    Palomar 450HD Fet

I've put my FET amps to the side for the moment, but yeah, the price is not bad and they are a good match for higher powered radios to get you a little more power out. They DO need a fan. Pout drops drastically as they heat up. I cracked open a ERF7530 mosfet, was not impressed, little tiny...

Icom 720A Stepper relay problem symptoms?

Thanks for the info. I decided it was too much for me to try to do myself. I sent it to a guy who's been Icom repairing since 1981, he will take care of it for me and for a reasonable price. I figured that was best since I am not up to speed on repairing such complicated rigs, I didn't want...

Icom 720A Stepper relay problem symptoms?

I have one of these old tanks here. It has the clunky relay in it when you switch bands... I understand it may need cleaning or repairing. BUT, this radio is having some other problem that I am not sure if it's related to the stepper relay problem or something else. It will switch bands (on...

    inexpensive/cheap cb amps . palomar/cobra vs. rm/kl

Would like to see more about this. Notice in the 503 schematic that it uses the mosfets in parallel groups (2 on each side of the transformer) more like you would "normally" use a mosfet. I tried building a prototype very similar to this about a month ago, not such good luck, been thinking...

Xfmrless Tube amp, can it be made safe?

Someone brought this into my shop, and I did a little researching, I saw where a lot of people had these things and while I saw lots about how it could electrocute the user, I never found one story about someone being electrocuted by one of these things. Question is. Can it be made safe...

    JB-150 Tube heating issue help!

Added datasheet for 6550 (partial) had it in gif, but was too large 640x640 was too small couldn't read it so I just made it a pdf. Someone take a look and let me know what you think attached is 8417 datasheet too. Thanks to NJ7P for his cool tube database online.

    JB-150 Tube heating issue help!

Specs look like 6550 tube will drop right in, with none or just a little bias adjustment. Someone take a look and let me know if you think it will work, I will get one and try it:

    JB-150 Tube heating issue help!

I just read where someone put a 6L6GC tube in a JB150... Looking at the specs it shows max plate voltage only 500V. Doesn't the JB150 run almost 800VDC on the plate? They said it worked fine.
