Thanks for the replies guys.
First off, 30A power supply that isn't being taxed too heavily, especially on AM. It's pulling only 9A when modulated from a 15W carrier.
Secondly, it emits a tone when it's set to key under 6W and the audio is scratchy when set under 10W.
With the mic gain set at...
So I’ve been playing around with my new Galaxy DX-94HP I bought from Bells CB and hooked up my average-reading power meter to look at the output. It swings backwards.
Do I just need to back the AM carrier settings down to 5-35W and maybe back off the AMC a little?
Thanks!
Yeah, it's a little bright and, of course, the moment you crank it down the backlighting dims too, but it's not nearly as bad in person. The meter always washes out in the camera.
Totally unnecessary, at least for me. But to call this a "ten meter amateur radio" on the same box that says "big...
Hopefully my new DX-94HP gets here this week. But, I have a dilemma. I have 12GA wire run from the battery through the dash of my truck up to where the radio will go. I’m thinking with this radio I might need 10GA.
Should I pull everything and run all new wire through the truck or will I be OK...
It's a heavy-duty ass stainless spring. It'll keep the whip from bending if it hits something but on the highway it's rigid. Only the upper third of the whip bends back a little on the highway.
I got a new stainless steel 102” whip and 4” spring. My mount gives about a 2” rise, so there’s about 108” of antenna. I checked SWR today and it’s not too bad, but I figured I could do a little better. Here are my readings:
With 4” Spring
CH 1 - 1.4
CH 20 - 1.6
CH 40 - 1.8
Without 4” Spring...
You mean the noisy relay issue? I don’t run QSK so it’s no issue for me.
Oh, and you’re gonna be one of about 20-30 people globally to refer to the 7300 as a “POS”. The rest of us like the radio.
Yes, it can be. I’m looking at Yeasu’s ATAS-120A screwdriver antenna that uses the radio for everything, power and control. Looks like as long as you have a good ground it’s a decent choice for 40M-10M and will not break the bank or drive you crazy setting it up. No, it’s not the best antenna...
I’ve owned both a Kenwood TS-590SG and a Kenwood TS-2000, but I’ve used quite a few others, like higher-end ‘90s Kenwoods, Yaesus and Icoms, as well as an Elecraft K3 and a newer Flex with the Maestro controller.
As for performance, it’s up there with a loaded up K3, a higher-end Flex and the...
