What would be your "all out" radio?
I have heard nothing but good things about the S-9 family, but then I haven't really been into CBin' in like 12 years. My last radio, besides my current throw-down Cobra 29 freebie, was a 2510 that I bought new and regret selling.
I've always wanted me a...
Actually, I was going to bid on a Philippines-built Grant XL that was supposedly unmolested, in great shape and had the box, but I forgot what time it ended today and lost out. Someone got that rig for like $56.
I actually thought about the DX-979 as well due to possible future mounting...
Thanks for the input and recommendations guys.
I was really wanting to stay away from the digital 10m radios, but it sounds like they're the only ones worth a damn on sideband these days. I used to run a 2510 and loved it, and that Magnum 257HP looks very interesting, but I would love a...
I'm thinking about buying a new SSB radio and I'd like to pay no more than $200 out-the-door with mods. I just want clean, loud transmit and quiet, strong receive with stability and durability. I don't want to run out of band, I don't want echo or noise toys, just a great CB radio.
The two...
What I'd like to see is a brand new Chinese 148GTL vs. a brand new Chinese DX-949, both with the basic alignment, tune and receive mods.
I'm looking at getting a new radio and I'm trying to choose between these two.
I'm going to use the analyzer some time this week to try to set the SWR as best as possible on that antenna and my big gain Hustler as I have yet to get that far since I've been chasing this impedance/resistance issue. I've got my Larsen dual-band on an NMO magnet on the roof and it works...
The antenna is fine, it just works better with the matching transformer disconnected. It exhibits the same impedance/resistance problem as the 2M antenna on the same stake pocket mount.
Removing the 2M antenna from the truck changed nothing with the CB antenna. Besides, lots of people run...
UPDATE: Spring, Texas
The mysterious impedance/resistance problem continues.
I took an old 5in. magnet mount I had laying around and stuck the 2M antenna on it. It worked SO much better than on my stake pocket mount. I then checked my CB antenna with the 2M removed and nothing changed, so...
Yes, the two bolts hold a retainer that keeps the mount on the truck. The ground is screwed to the retainer. The mounts are custom made.
I might try moving the ground from the mount retainer to the outside of the S0239 on the stud mount. If that doesn't change anything then I'll just set the...
The analyzer read about 70ohms at about a 2:1 SWR.
Here are a few photos of my install.
As you can see, they are mounted on the rearward pockets. Also notice that the mounts are aluminum. Could that be a problem?
I haven't really tried to adjust the SWR on the 2M antennas yet, but I have on the CB antenna using the radio's built-in meter and it gets down to an acceptable level, but I have a weird issue where the noise level fades in and out over time, as if it were an internal radio problem. Receiving is...
I've got a problem that I can't figure out. I have high resistance, by about 20 ohms, on both my CB and 2M mobile antennas. Both are mounted on 3/8x24 stake pocket mounts on my pickup. There are no shorts in the feedline, no shorts on the mounts and they are grounded to the frame with grounding...
