Ah! THe Cobra 200GTL, eh? Good radio! I have one. Check out this video,

which details an important adjustment, if you want the radio survive. (Out of the box, the bias was set too high which led to premature failure of the driver.)
Very rare rare radio today. They...
All the radios we are discussing, "export" or "10M" are designed and built to a price. Sure, one can perform performance enhancing mods that will improve certain aspects of the radio's performance, but not many. These radio are what they are. If you want better, by an amateur HF radio...
No mod limiter on that machine. It uses low level balanced modulator with carrier injection for AM. By carefully balancing the carrier to mod level, you can achieve an unlimited positive modulation (so long as the ALC is disabled). However, the echo mic would be interesting.:tt2:

If SSB is your main operating mode, then I highly suggest the Optima. It's pricey but it's worth it. Feature-wise it runs circles around the OmegaForce. It tunes the frequencies just like a true HF radio, and it has selectable frequency increments. I can't compare it to the CRE 8900, but...
RCI 69FFCx Frequency expansion.
EPT990014A chassis, with built in 200/400 watt amp
1. Bottom of main board, solder side, Remove 100 ohm 1/8 watt resistor on bottom of PCB in 4008-divider area.
2. Top of main board, component side. On J30, move the shorting block to pins 2-3.

I have a box of D-104 parts - stems, bases, connectors, you name it. Hmmmm....
Maybe I could put a few stems together and make up a 3 foot tall D-104? Whatchu think? How about a floor model? How about one with two heads?
Brackets and mounts for mobile antennas?
The best source I know:
Breedlove Mounts
Everything, and I mean everything you need for mounting antennas on a mobile.
The connectors that connect the various boards, and sub-assemblies are a known problem on the '2510. Re-seating them will often cure some problems. I sprayed a little DeOxit D5 onto the connectors to help improve the reliability.
I cannot recommend the Optima Mk II (or III) enough, especially for amateur use. I have tried EVERY export radio on the market and by far it is the best for-dual use (10M/11M). It is highly competent on 11M (but not a super-screamer), and excellent on 10M. It even tunes and behave like a...
On reflection, I must now agree with you. I DID NOT in fact use a 9 foot whip, but it was a 8 foot long, 80M hamstick. Others who have tried the 9' whip/antenna tuner have also reported extremely poor performance on 80M. I will assume that the tuner, provides the requisite match to the...
The Imax 2000 is a compromised end fed stick, as Shockwave calls it. It may be 5/8ths w.l. long, but that lack of radials really compromises the performance. The radial kit that is provided for the Imax is merely a form of RF choke to help suppress the common mode currents that are...
I'm very late to this thread, but here goes my observations of the Hy-gain Penetrator 500 (of which I've had several over the years, compared to the Maco V58, and other antennas).
The stated gain by Hy gain is "5.3dB". Whenever a gain figure is quoted as dB only, you should assume that it is...
