Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

Are you certain the simulation program wasn't given, and doesn't take into account, the number of radials and the cumulative current gain? It appears to show two of the four radials, one on each side, left & right, and being that it is designed to show a flat slice from one side for a visual...

I hope so, on 10m it's legal for me to run 1500w pep.

    New antenna from Sirio Gain-Master

I like what one guy I saw on youtube does, - makes a partial video of one, then pauses it and returns later to finish the video with the next antenna up on the same mast so the comparison is instant A-B but with 20-30 minutes actually between them, then back to the 1st. ...Marconi, you taking...

    New antenna from Sirio Gain-Master

That 'beacon' may have actually been on 27.095 which is 11A and often used for R/C toys, wireless computer mouses, and all sorts of things requiring a frequency to operate. Another A+ for the video. That display sure mimics well that of the TS-2000. Is that the 2547?

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

I was tossing this around in my mind earlier tonight while I was helping a friend set up for home brewing. - If the cone area bloom (visual representation of the RF radiation) appeared to be as 'healthy' as it does in the top ½λ I would venture an inspired guess that it would add about 50%...

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

That sounds plausible - that the bloom size / appearance is variable by the user, as is the amount of power one programs into the simulation. So it appears it has "a little" additional current in the cone but that ~75%-80% of the radiated RF energy is from the top ½λ.

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

As was my suspicion, but now having twice been assured by Shockwave that it IS in full bloom, I am basing my question to him or Bob85 as such. And yes, that appears so much higher a level of A/m than that of either the SGM or the conventional 5/8 that I have to question why.

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

Hi Bob, OK, could you translate that for me into dB? I noticed the Vector was peaking at 2.37 A/m but the SGM was peaking at only .173 A/m. 2.37 ÷ .173 = 13.7 times more...? If this were equivalent to watts, the Vector would be radiating more than 20 times more energy than the SGM. :ohmy...

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

Really, full bloom? That's hard to believe when I compare it to the much fuller SGM bloom, or perhaps I'm seeing the extra gain of a 5/8 over a 1/2...? I see it but I see only a sliver of color not a nice thick bloom, which to me shows only a little energy, as in minimal added gain and...

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

I'd sure like to see the entire 360° CST on the "New Sirio Vector 4000 ¾λ Coaxial J-Pole" - as Sirio refers to it. - Seems odd they would send only a single slice of the CST, ...and one that's not even in full bloom. Back in '88, the LW-150 (same basic dimensions as the new Vector) didn't...

    New antenna from Sirio Gain-Master

When I look at the beauty of Sirio's CST on that Gain Master I can't help but expect it to shine, and out-shine any other monopole, I'm just hoping yours delivers all it can for you so you'll be getting the most out of your station omni.

    Best Mobile Coax

Marconi, did you measure the coax coming out from the top of the coil and find it shorter than the top wire? I only gave it a cursory going over but after looking at their diagram and considering the overall length minus the coil & mounting area I recall when I assembled and installed it 5...

I should've placed a  after that 'Tag-team' comment! It always seemed to do the trick and years later when I became conscious of Velocity Factor it snapped into focus for me. I wish I would've thought about DC bonding panels, that might have saved hours of chasing RFI!

    Best Mobile Coax

No, I know, I was just feeling a little ganged-up-on, but I still don't agree with your summation of the coax outside VF or else the Sirio Gain Master couldn't work as they claim. Sirio count on, (and have tested it to have) half of the 5/8λ on the braid / shield as radiating CMC and that's...

    Best Mobile Coax

I don't believe the VF of the outside of the coax to be significantly less than 100%, I was being facetious with that last smart-assed remark I posted... just feeling a little irritated, I shouldn't though, short night's sleep, short fuse I guess. - But it does seem like if I say "The sky is...

    Best Mobile Coax

Good morning, Welcome to Tag-Team USA! I never stated that we didn't tune the antenna. A car can be both Blue AND a Ferrari. Maybe I forgot how easy it is to get a nice perfect 50Ω, X=0 tuning on a mobile antenna Remember, most of these guys were running a 350 or 667 amp with a mag mount...

Ameritron ALS-500M HF Solid State Amplifier Review

You must be a mind reader... that's exactly what I replaced it with. I bought an IC-706IIG and hated it in comparison to the FT-100D so I put it on ebay and got a NEW-IN-BOX Metron for it. Got 775w pep from the Metron.

Hi Doc, How did I arrive at those lengths? I kept finding that length stopped the RF feedback in mobile systems I helped with back in the '70s when almost all my friends had radios & amps. It just works out that 12 FEET OF 66% Velocity Factor RG-213/RG-8/RG-8M is a 1/2 wavelength inside and...

Ameritron ALS-500M HF Solid State Amplifier Review

Before I could afford a Screwdriver I ran Hamsticks, only Lakeville the original, never Ironhorse or any others which seem flimsy to me by comparison. Yes, I did keep a small standard screwdriver in the glove compartment for adjusting them depending on where on the band I was talking. It was a...
