Some poor photos of the L4+ assembled and analyzer sweeps of vertical and horizontal. Just a starting point, I probably need to get it off the ground to get a better idea. The baluns are temporarily attached until I get an idea where they will be when properly tuned.
What is the diameter of the brass part of the stub?
1/8"
The brass stub comes pre bent and is 18" long from bent end to center of wire eyelet.
I will post a photo of the drawing with some measurements I took today, I think will be better.
Let me know if I have missed anything I am not very...
The spacing between the wires is 1-3\8" and wire to boom spacing is 1-7/8". The flexable tuning wires are 12 guage not 13 like the element wires.
If you leave 4" between the tuner insulators and the DE and D1 it leaves about 47" of space for the tuning wires total. I plan to get the De and tuner...
Sounds like you have a good start there.
I was thinking about that earlier about the matching dimensions. I just got home and have a service call in the morning but I will get that for you tomorrow. I'll get the spacing and everything you need.
I remember now asking George about the element spacing being different on the 10m vs 11m and he said only the wires were changed.
I happy to help with anything I can, it would be great to have a model of this antenna!
Hello, I'm dennis. I'm installing a new L4+ and Marconi said you have experience with Lightning Antennas L4+. Does it need a phillystran mast support, I don't want any extra wind drag because the mast is already maxed out, but I also don't want any boom sag after the first missouri snow. The...
I'm thinking since I am pushing the limits of the mast, I don't want any more wind drag than necessary.
The thin phillystran I have been using for boom support does not have the nylon cover like the bigger stuff I use for guys. It doesn't seem to stretch at all. That is good info that the cable...
Those are stretched dimensions.
Don't worry before this thing leaves the ground I'm going to document all the dimensions, photograph it and probably give it a proctology exam as well. Work and other stuff keeps getting in the way so will be a slow process. I will post updates along the way. I'll...
Anyone have any input on the strength of the boom on the L4+? I was planning to use phillystran support but it appears to be very ridged, much of it is double wall. I just don't want it to sag over time.
My wires measure.
Ref 431"
De 417"
1sr dir 403"
2nd dir 402"
None stretched more than an inch or so. If I compare to a couple of quad calculators none agree exactly. This doesn't seem to match your estimate of 5" variance from the 11 meter version. This is such an odd duck I guess I have to...
No tilt over, wish it was.
My plan is to drop the hazer down to the middle set of guys at 50 ft. Then I'm going to take up 4x4' sections of military aluminum mast and also a support cable and make a crane arm. I've tested this at ground level and it holds my 180 lbs easy. Then I can use the...
I think it makes good since to stretch these a bit as Harvey did otherwise I bit it will soon be out of tune.
Thanks for modeling at 28.4 now I know about what the lengths should be.
I think I'm going to post an eham review when I get done.
I think George has made a lot of changes with the...
The 147.5" is just the flexible wire, does not include the 18" brass. That coupled with the smaller 10m element is probably going to leave a much greater range of adjustment, I will see if there is room between the mast and element for that.
They claim the wires are pre-stretched.
Also, George...
LA told me the center freq is 28.400 with .5MHz BW. The Ref and De wires have a tag with them that states 10 meters. I assume there manual is generic but I'll see what they measure. They will cut any ctr freq you want but is extra for other than 10 or 11 meters.
